I sure like my food with as little additives as possible, for myself, and for any of my pets.

What is the link with vaping?

Yeah, I saw that add and it bothers me too.

The link with vaping Lizzebed, is that one of the pups is wearing a sign that reads "Pups against propylene glycol". PG is one of the main ingredients used in nicotine liquid and is not known to be harmful to humans. Or should I say it is known not to be harmful to humans.

I think it is used in some dog food as a moisture retainer to help keep the food soft.

Yeah, definitely not a fan of that ad.

But Bozzlite, i will say that while I agree that PG is 'not known to be harmful to humans', I dont agree that its 'known NOT to be harmful to humans'. rofl... very fine distinction. I've read all the studies and know there's no evidence that its possible to get enough pg from vaping to be harmful (based on the current studies), but I'm a big fan of Natural Health Information Articles and Health Newsletter by Dr. Joseph Mercola , which is sort of a widely regarded source for natural medicine and he's not too fond of pg. I've been reading other rumblings of perhaps its not a healthy thing in other natural medicine sources. I myself had pretty bad reactions from it (but of course there are some people who are allergic to sunlight, too, so that's not saying much). My thinking on pg at this point is that the rumblings on potential dangers remind me a lot of what I was hearing about aspartame and sucralose 10 years ago, and we all know how that turned out. Still on the market, of course, but known to be quite dangerous. I guess what I'm saying is its SURE not as dangerous as smoking, but I make the choice to use little of it, personally.

But yes, you guys are right... still a stupid ad. ;) But I also make the choice to feed my cat food with no biproducts or grains, so I guess its the presentation more than the idea that I object to.

thanks jcpjc...i was just going to post that- PG can be toxic to cats, and possibly birds. I think they put PG in antifreeze because drinking it is less toxic to dogs than the original antifreeze components...

but as bad as the ad is (even if it is about food additives) , please be careful with your liquids around your pets.

i don't think the vapor is concentrated enough to be harmful, but PG is prohibited in cat food because it can cause Heinz body anemia

Cats fed PG at levels higher than what is typically found in commercial foods have a marked increase in HzB formation (up to 91% of RBCs affected), as well as other RBC abnormalities such as increased adhesion to surfaces, production of ghost cells, and increased membrane fragility.3 Studies have shown that cats on commercial PG-containing diets are more susceptible to the effects of oxidative stress induced by acetominophen administration, displaying increased HzB and methemoglobin formation, relative to cats on PG-free diets.11

Here is a link explaining the danger of PG with cats. Be advised, its grouped with Acetaminophen and onions.

Okay, whew! Got worried there for a moment. It seems mainly to be an issue with any foods that may contain PG. Good to know, and thanks for the links. My cats tend to stay away from my vapor clouds anyway (they don't seem to like the smell of whatever I'm vaping :D) so I think they should be fine. Still gotta be better than cigarette smoke. :)

I noticed that too.... I mean, when my cat was in my room and I smoked she wouldn't stick around for long. Now, well now I'm vaping and she's curled up sleeping inches behind me. Doesn't even wince when vapor gets near her... at all. While I don't think Propylene Glycol should be in pet food, I don't like the light it is portrayed in on the ad either.

Thanks for the info re: pg bad for cats! I didn't know that! I'm super careful with my liquids anyway, since Beatrix the gigantic does tend to stick her nose and paws in anything she can reach, but still good to know!

BTW, my cat used to avoid my vapor clouds when I vaped stuff w pg and artificial flavors, but now that I'm on 100% VG, Organic liquids, she seems to rather enjoy them... rather cute when she does the kitty 'nose bump' when I'm vaping something she enjoys the smell of. If I had to guess i'd say the difference is probably the Organic flavors, not the pg, that she likes now.
