Adrenylann, hope you can help me out with this. I recently bought a GGSS and love vaping at 7 volts. What do I have to do to keep the V4L carts up to snuff with HV batteries?

I have kept the caps off so far and refill often. The V4L (reg) cartos have held up well.

What do you recommend when it comes to using cartos at HV?

God Bless ya, Michelle

5v is GREAT but even @ 6v - Yuckadoo :p Way too harsh and dry tasting - even with a brand new fresh carto. I know there are people who like it a 6v (those crazy kids) but 7+ Volts? WOW

maybe 'lynn will have something more to say... but i'd say, at least, i wouldn't do it with premiums. it's not just a matter of the length of time you push the button; no carts are designed to handle over 3.7 v to begin with. i mean, i love standards at 5 v, but i reckon it's not their intended function. another 2.4 v? *wincey face* i'd say if you like it, just expect them not to last as long. i'm not sure what else you can do other than limit the time you push the button, and keep 'em topped off.

I have to admit that I'm a tad surprised you'd specifically address me, Michelle, with this question.

The three recent threads I most remember interacting with you in recently were:

Burning cartomizer battings, juice consumption, and pre-vaporization/incomplete vaporization ("rocks")

So now you want to take a cartomizer designed for ~3 watts and cram substantially in excess [fresh charge] of 8 watts through them? More power to you [pun intended] - but next thread, I get to point and laugh... ;)

My advice: Pin the manufacturer of your device down on specifically what cartomizer at what resistance and with what "vaping style" they're designed for. Then adhere solely to that. When experiencing problems, stick to their forum area and give them hell about their device, leaving the cartomizer choice/vendor entirely out of it.

[Note to the casual observer: don't ask for my opinion unless you want it... ;) ]

Hi Michelle -

I have a mod that's capable of 7+ volts as well, and I've played with cartos on it (because that's how I roll, I like to experiment and see things for myself). So hopefully I can give you a little insight as well. First off, you DONT want to use a premium carto on it at all. Ever. Since they operate at a lower resistance, you are increasing wattage to the point that not only is it not enjoyable anymore, it can be dangerous. It pushes things out of spec for both the carto and the device you are referring to.

If you must use cartomizers, I'd strongly advise that you stick to the old 'regular' cartos and be very diligent about keeping them soaked. Also, as you've discovered, you don't wanna ride that button!!! Keep the presses under 2 seconds (closer to under 1 second in my experience with 7+V) and don't hit it too often. The carto will need some time between vapes to cool back down.

Even if you are careful to do these things, please keep in mind that you won't get anywhere near the longevity that you'd get at lower voltage, they simply weren't designed for that kind of application.

Honestly, your best option (both in terms of performance and enjoyability) is probably to stick with the iattys that were designed to work with that specific device. Their resistance has been tweaked to work with the voltage supplied to give you the best possible vape at that voltage (at the tradeoff of a cartomizer's ease of use and durability). Even with those, you'll want to drip and keep lots of juice available to the atty or it will die prematurely.

You should also be able to get a dummy battery spacer that would let you run it at 3.7V, and that's a MUCH better option if you want to use cartomizers!

I know a lot of people like to run cartos at higher voltages, but for me it destroys the flavor, so it's just not enjoyable. And the cartos will absolutely not last nearly as long. Just keep in mind that you're asking them to do something they weren't designed to do.

Looks like a nice mod, btw. I haven't met one in person but it's purdy in the pictures!

I've had the chance to try regular and premium cartos on a very nice 6V mod......LOVED it. I'm sure that it goes through juice and cartos faster than a standard battery. Some flavors might be overpowered by 6V, but I tried several and didn't notice this at all. Just the opposite in fact.....the flavors seemed enhanced to me.
I constantly use the 5V PT with both regular and premium cartos with no problems or degradation whatsoever. My ideal unit would probably be a regulated 5V mod.

Can't say I would need or want a 7.4V unit (for cartos).

I always want your opinon.... ;)

So tell me, does this carto make my .... look fat???? (It's a grape carto)

No, it's actually the fat that makes your .... look fat. [I don't think I've ever seen your .... - but that's the kinda technically literal answer that gets me in trouble... ]

I agree use old and premium cartos with my Prodigy V2. Love it. A lot of smoke, taste is better and I dont need to take 10 seconds drag.
