Vamo V5 Overburn Problems

Hello all! I am having an intermittent problem with my Vamo V5. Every once in a while it seems like the voltage/wattage increases quite a bit for one button press. For instance, I can be running at 5.5 watts, taking the odd drag while watching a show, and out of the blue I'll go to take a drag and the vapour will be too hot. Changing the power 1 click up or down fixes the problem immediately. This happens randomly. Seems like maybe 1 in 50 uses or so.

If you need to know, unfortunately my V5 will not display the firmware rev. Neither can I change the RMS mode. Although, I can confirm I'm using RMS mode by setting my screen to display the current while vaping. For instance, while using the unit at 9.0W the screen displays RMS 2.1A.

Is this random jump in power a known issue, or do I have to look into repairing/exchanging my unit?

Thanks and Merry Christmas everyone.

New one to me, you have a newr V5 so it only does RMS. The only thing I can think of is you have a dodgy connection and it is reading the resistance wrong sending too much voltage for the device. If this is the case then using voltage adjustment will fix the problem. Maybe someone knows something that I don't though.

That's a brilliantly simple idea, and should help with troubleshooting.

Maybe you're misdiagnosing a dry hit as a problem of overpower when the actual problem might be wicking / topper related, and not power related.

What are you putting on top of it? If an RTA or RBA, check the connections to the coil. If a clearo, make sure the coil is seated snugly to the base. Sounds like an intermittent connection to me as well, and the electronics are trying to hit you watt setpoint and jumping around as it sees the resistance change.

And yes, putting your Vamo in VV mode and directly setting the voltage is one way to troubleshoot. In that mode, it won't read the resistance and adjust the volts to hit the watts you've set, it will just output the volts you've set.

Not 100% on the lingo. RTA/RTB? I have an Innokin Gladius on top. Also, VV mode... I can adjust power by either wattage in .5w steps or voltage in .1v steps. I gather you're suggesting I use voltage adjustments instead of wattage. I will try that for the rest of the day and post my results later. Hopefully that works.

Thanks everyone. I truly appropriate the advice.

Unfortunately, that's not the case. My new tank can pull enough juice for even the highest settings. No, you can actually feel how hot the vapour is when it glitches out like that. I may just ignore it though. Like I said, it only happens one or two times in a hundred.

Well does it only happen with that one tank?

Maybe your vamo has a problem, but nobody's going to want to jump to that conclusion based one the information you're providing;

As otherwise suggested, setting to volts mode would help trouble shooting because then the vamo won't be adjusting the volts upwards if it sees a sudden increase in resistance.

If you are using clearomizers with coil wires that depend on pressure squeeze between rubber grommets and metal, then over time, corrosion affects the contact resistance and your or other vw mod would end up varying voltage to compensate for the varying ohms.

If you are getting the same issue on the vamo with multiple tanks then that would point to the vamo, but so far it's still not clear that that is the case.

There are various flavors of the vamo too, even among vamo5's coming from different factories; your's is one of the newer ones because you mentioned "RMS 2.1A" (btw is that 2.1 amps or 2.1 ohms?)

My vamo5s is one of the older ones with the older screen.

To see the firmware version, I take out the battery; hold the fire button down, then while holding button down, put in the battery.

I have used 4 different tanks and have had the problem with them all. Unfortunately I can't get my unit to display it's firmware rev. I keep holding the fire button while I screw on the bottom but it just says "Hello" then goes black. :(

When my dad opens his V5 up on Christmas day I'll try his and see if it's the same. Got 3 V5's at the same time but can't compare them until Christmas morning.

Was that sold as a 'vamo' ? Did it come in a box that said 'vamo' ?
I don't see the up/down buttons, and that mod is a telescopic mod; plus the screen on it is vertical while all the vamos I've seen the screen is horizontal.

here's what mine looked like when i fixed it

Your's looks more like a sigelei zmax5 telescopic:
