Hey everyone. Im new to mech mods and I only have a couple of vamped 18650 "40" amp batteries. I know that theyre 40 amp pulse, and 20 amp continuous. They are the only batteries I have currently so I have nothing to compare it to. I was wondering if these are good? Ive heard everybody raving obout the sony vtc3, 4, and 5's, but I have been unable to find any. How to the vamped compare? Whats a good alternative to the sonys? Im looking to get into cloud chasing, so im looking for something that can handle low sub ohm builds. Thanks everyone!

Hey there again Vappindaddy. Depending how low you are going to go, you have a few options. One of the better 30 amp continuous batteries is the VTC5 - but it's almost impossible to get a hold of. The VTC4 however is in stock in some places.

Sony 18650 VTC4 2100mAh 30a has them for about $11 each. I don't recommend going below a 0.2ohm build on any mech (but that is my own overly-cautious recommendation)

If you are planning on staying above say a 0.3ohm build, you could also use the Smsung 25R battery 18650 Samsung INR18650-25R 2500mAh High Discharge Flat Top <---- Illumination supply also has the LG HE2 battery which is another solid 20 amp continuous.

There are other options too, but I trust the two vendors above and use both of the batteries I mentioned regularly. The Samsungs are a great deal at less than $7 each - I have 6 of these batteries that I use in rotation in my Sigelei 100w. Great battery life too.

Finally, another good 20 amp battery is another from RTD vapor - the AW IMR 18650 2200 mAh

I've been using AW batteries since I started vaping and all of the ones I have are still going strong. I trust the brand and the vendor. Just don't buy batteries from Amazon or Ebay, there are a lot of fakes out there.

My friend has some vamped batteries rated at 40a pulse as well. They are 20a continuous so if you stay wary of your limit you will be fine, 0.3 ohms should be the lowest you build. That being said they are not great batteries and have a really quick drop off time.

You should definitely pick up some Samsung's/Sony's/LG's they are cheap for a pair and reliable batteries there's really no reason not to.

I use the purple efest 2500 mah "35 amp" 20 amp batteries and the work great in my mech i dont build lower than .3 anyway so they are fine for me even though like lowest possible is something like .21 or something i dont plan on doing anyway. I also have specific pair for my ivp3 and if you are really serious about cloud chasing get a regulated mod that uses 2 or more batteries and can put out over 50 watts. I ran a .6 ohms coil on a ivp at 100 watts and it works just as well maybe better than my coils of half the resistance on my mech did.

Panasonic 3400mAh 18650 Li-ion 3.7v Battery NCR18650B

I would not use this battery in a mechanical mod period. It's a 6.8 amp battery and is an ICR type.

I have some of these batteries and they work great in my flashlights. I would even use one in an Evic or Vamo for low power (less than 15w) and non sub-ohm - but in a mechanical, no.

I don't recommend these batteries for mech mod use because most people who use mechanicals approach or are into more than 6.8A draw. OTOH, these puppies are not ICR chemistry and are AFAIK pretty safe. Here's a video of the NCR18650A taking a short and coming out looking pretty good;

Callies Kustoms 3100mAh Panasonic 18650

That's the 'A' battery (3100 mAh) instead of the 'B' (3400 mAh), but I think they have the same chemistry and technology so they will probably perform quite similarly under stress.

Thanks Ryedan, I could have sworn I read that these were more ICR chemistry than not - but I can't find the link or remember the source.

That torture test is pretty impressive - on mute!
