Hi everyone, im new to the vaping world, and ordered a smok Alien 220W vape kit few days ago, then i found out batteries are not included. So i bought batteries from a local sell/buy app which he had bought here:
Sony Konion US18650 VTC5 - 2600mAh, 3,6V - 3,7V Button Top | eBay

After i bought i found out it has button top, not flat top. Does this work for my vape? I it safe?
I would really appreciate a fast reply/answer to this, because i want to try the vape and im loosing my patience. Too exited to try it out.

I personally have never seen or heard of Button Top VTC5’s. So do not know if such a thing exists or what you have purchased are fakes. Ebay is not the most reliable source for batteries.

That said, button tops are longer than your typical 18650. There is a good chance they will not fit. Instead of taking a risk, ask for a refund and purchase the proper batteries. If you let us know where you are located, some will refer you to trusted sources for legit batteries.

    Welcome to ECF, VaapeeNooob.

    Don't buy batteries from eBay.

I'm not familiar with that device, and don't have the time or inclination to look it up, but I'll say one can probably only use flat tops in it. Button tops probably won't even fit in it.

Most vape battery devices today are designed for flat top batteries, so as others have said a button top 18650 might not fit your Smok Alien because button top batteries are a tad bit longer. Sony Murata the manufacturer does not make button top batteries, so I question if they are truly authentic Sony Murata. The supplier may have added the button top later, though.

How you "might" be able to detect if a Sony battery is fake or not. Dated article.

Thanks for answering guys. Auch though, i wont be able to return the batteries, seems like i have to buy new ones. The batteries looks very authentic though and they have a sony QRcode. I live in Oslo, Norway. Kinda want to get one from a store close by so i dont need to wait for another order.

I found a very similar thread to this
    Button Top vs. Flat Top

I was scared of explosion cuz i heard its important to get the right batteries and have them wrapped well. Then i saw the comment of the guy in the link called "baditude"
Out of what i understood until now, there is no danger of explosion. If the battery fits, then i may be able to use them?

I personally would not use them. Your device was designed for flat top batteries, using anything other than may put excessive stress on the cell and or the device. I cannot say whether that stress will create problems or not.

As @Baditude mentioned, Sony does not make Button Top batteries. Although he did state someone may have added the button top which means modifying the battery.

Counterfeit cells are getting better at disguising themselves to look more and more authentic. You cannot just go on looks alone, even if there is a QR code. This is why it is recommended to purchase from trusted sources

So we have a unknown and a untrusted supplier, a modified battery of questionable authenticity, and a device that was designed to be used with flat top cells. Ask yourself if it is worth the risk?
