I'm a designer, and also very concerned by the packaging of e-juices. I have worked for Mercedes, Ford, Honda, Emerson etc... My roommate designed Nike, Toys"R"Us, Best Buy etc... I have been around some of the best designers in the world, and we would NEVER design packaging like this.
I think it all comes down to morals, discernment, and creativity. A seasoned designer will discern a design, and anticipate the potential outcome, as well as the message of that design. Point is, some designers just don't care if it attracts young people, or not. They bust out a look, and want paid. E-Juice manufactures aren't stupid either. They know what attracts, and what doesn't. They think it's creative by designing juice box packaging, but to me it's predictable, careless, and tasteless.
I think the majority of e-juice designers use the #1 food rule which is, "You eat with your eyes first". For me, it's all about classy designs that are tasteful, and thoughtful. Not designs that are careless. I also agree that parents need to pay more attention to their children, and talk to them. I always live by. "Smart people learn from other peoples mistakes". (I call those people mentors)...
Parents don't have sit downs with their kids anymore, and just talk. Kids are left to make their own mistakes. Reminds me of letting the dog outside, and back in before sleep.
If you keep your e-juice in the fridge and a kid sees this, they will open the box, and take the bottle out. They won't look at anything else, they will squirt this in their mouth because it has apples on it. The fridge is a safety zone so to speak. Everything in it is considered safe right? That's exactly how a kid will look at this. Whether it's in the fridge or a cupboard.
It's not always the designers fault. Sometimes a client wants what they want, and doesn't give the designer free reign to be creative, or think outside the box. If a client wanted me to make this design, I would humbly explain the bad idea. If they insisted I continue with it, I would respectfully pass on the project. I gotta sleep at night.
This is an example of a classy design.
We shouldn't need 42 different pictures of fruit on the box to understand it's tropic. We can read the description.
