This morning I visited weatherchannel.com as usual, and also as usual, once I had satisfied my curiosity about my local weather, I got sidetracked by some of their photos -- I've been looking at the photos of the recent blizzard in Buffalo, it's just so far removed from my own experience -- and now, as if last week's blizzard wasn't enough, they have massive flooding going on, from all that melting white stuff.

Anyway, I was flipping thru a slideshow of some of the scenes in the Buffalo area, and found this one:

If you haven't experienced it you might be interested to know that it affects sound. All that fluffy snow creates a kind of outdoor sound booth. It's very quiet and actually quite pleasant.

Yeah I can always tell as soon as I wake, if there is snow outdoors -- either here (which is somewhat uncommon but not impossible), or in other more-snowy places I've lived. It's like you have a blanket around your ears.

Here, though, we frequently get those godawful ice storms, and you haven't lived till you've been in the "piney woods" when all those pines are coated in ice, and popping like firecrackers in a regular cadence. Everytime you hear another, you wonder who's roof or power lines got hit this time.

I sure hope we don't get any of that junk this winter; twice last winter was quite enough for a decade!

So that's were our snowy, cold winters went.

Could be -- last week, Buffalo, NY got an entire winter's worth of snow in about 3 days, courtesy of Lake Erie.

But today, Nov 30, our weather here is about par for this time of year -- it's sunny, calm, going to be 69 degrees today! :) Well ok, that's a little warmer than we would normally experience on Nov 30, but it goes to show you why so many northerners relocate to Atlanta. (for those on the C scale, that's about 20 degrees).

It's been a bit strange the last couple of years. Not nearly as cold as it was the previous years with not a lot of snow. And the summers' been warmer than most place we traditionally travel to to warm up.

Currently it's sitting right above the freezing point with no snow in sight. And a rainy forecast for the week to come.

Another side effect of cold and big snow storms is the increased birth rate 9 months later.

I guess you have to pass the time somehow when trapped in your house and can't get out.

Heh, I guess we know what YOUNG folks do in that situation. ;) I guess old farts like me and the spouse could just argue. :D Which is not difficult at all when my husband can't get out and go to work; he is insufferable when bored; just goes from window to window to door, cussing the weather, and this state, which doesn't budget for snow removal -- generally the sun and unfrozen ground takes cares of that for us, so on the rare occasions when the temp stays low after a snow/ice event, we're all pretty much stuck wherever we are.

LOL... yeah, as AndriaD said, we had a really bad ice storm (by Georgia standards) last January and I know 4 couples that just had chitlins. Glad I had that part of my anatomy fixed. No mo chitlins for me!! LOL

It's odd; places where it's normally quite cold in the winter, don't seem to be getting as cold; here in the western hemisphere, we're just seeing FREAK weather, F5 tornadoes like those this past summer, godawful hurricanes like Katrina and Sandy, and last winter was the coldest winter in 30 yrs, here in GA. For which I'm grateful, actually; without that kind of cold weather, I wouldn't have been so motivated with e-cigs -- going outdoors worked fine for the 16 winters before; I might have been cold, but not THAT kind of cold!

Now when I hear a weather forecast calling for sub-freezing temps, I do a little Snoopy dance that I no longer have to go outside just to get my nic! :D
