MINI REVIEW
Everyone should know up front that I went to the website and paid retail for these -- they were
not review examples.
I ordered in the evening of Wednesday, September 14, and I received the combo this afternoon, Monday, September 19. They were shipped via UPS. The VapeCaddy was boxed separately and was in the drawer of the VapeStation. The combination was double-boxed, well padded and well packaged. A troop of rabid gorillas might be able to damage this kind of packaging, but it was more than adequate to stand up to OOPS shipping practices.
VAPECADDY: This is very solidly constructed of lumber, except for the base, which is composite board. All joints are very precisely made. The four holes are exactly the right size for eGo/Riva style fat-batt PVs. The receptacle for bottles is just the right size to also hold my Reo Grande fore-and-aft. This demonstrates just how much thought went into the design.
VAPESTATION: As with the VapeCaddy, this is a fine example of precision joining and is entirely of lumber except for the base and the bottoms of the drawers, which are composite board. Even the configurable dividers are of lumber, a nice touch. The bottom drawer can accommodate taller 50 ml. bottles, while the top compartment can take tall, dropper equipped bottles. I've always regarded the tall, 4 oz. Boston bottles as for storing concentrated nic-liquid in the freezer, but the top compartment can fit these, too. All corners on everything are nicely rounded with no rough edges.
QUIBBLES: These are
really minor, given the overall quality and the low prices.
- Both units come without any kind of "feet" to keep the bottoms from marring soft wood surfaces. But such an omission is easily remedied by a visit to Home Depot, and such "feet" are a personal preference, anyway. Felt works best on some surfaces; anti-slip rubbery feet are called for on some shiny surfaces.
- I'm slightly unhappy with the hardware, which is not quite in keeping with the high quality of the carpentry. But if I replace the hardware, I'll undoubtedly spend more than I spent on the VapeCaddy and the VapeStation put together. And if I get that ambitious, I have a couple veneer sheets of burled olive-wood which came from an 800-year-old tree and some veneer sheets of really primo American black walnut for trim . . .
CONCLUSION: Both the VapeCaddy and the VapeStation are handsome, well engineered and well crafted pieces of vape furniture that certainly don't look anywhere as inexpensive as they were. For $79.99 together, these are a screaming steal. Strongly recommended!
