I'd sure like to know where he came up with those figures! Since I was in high school (when I started smoking)...I never weighed more than 118 pounds and I'm 5'6" tall. I liked me the way I was!

I quit smoking Jan. 14, 2014 and by June was up to 126. I didn't like it, but I could live with it. Hard to figure where the gain came from though...as my eating habits didn't change 1 bit. Doctor said you don't HAVE to eat more after you quit smoking to gain weight, as I thought you did. Said without the nic my lungs would absorb into my blood stream, metabolism went down. He definiterly found that to be true when he had to change my Synthroid meds to a slightly higher dose. I thought that would stop the gaining.

Has slowly been creeping up since then, and I don't like it one bit...no sir...not one bit! I knew I'd about had it when I got out of the shower last week...made the mistake of looking in the mirror...and from my neck down...I WAS MY MOM!!!

I keep buying new blue jeans as I gain more weight, and now...including the ones I already had when the gaining started, and new ones I've bought along the way...I've got 14 pair of jeans I can't get into!

If 4-10 pounds is the average weight gain...then where's the additional 2 people that should be sharing MY weight gain with me???? That's what I wanna know.

Anyone have any ideas? My activity level is the same, I'm eating the same, etc., etc. Doctor says I'm in the best health I've been in, am about "ideal weight" for a female of my age and height. HUH? I don't want "ideal weight"...I want my OLD weight!

Sorry...rant over now.

I quit 6 weeks ago and started putting on weight immediately, despite sticking to a strict diet and increasing my exercise. Luckily I can afford to put on a little weight, but it was still alarming to me, because I have to work hard always to maintain my weight.

But last week I upped my thyroid meds (I have no thyroid), and by the end of the week I was losing weight again. Phew!

There's a lot of information out there about the impact quitting smoking makes on thyroid hormones. You might need to increase your meds again.

@RoseJ - During checkup last Fri. I talked about my continuing weight gain again, with my doctor (he's an endrochrinologist by the way). He again mentioned I'm at about "ideal weight" for my age female, and that I "looked good" at this weight. Said same thing last Aug. when I was 4 pounds lighter!

I read up on thyroid hormone levels and quitting smoking last night after my rant. Then I saw your comment on here about an hour ago. Placed a call to my doctor and he returned it just a few minutes ago. I asked about my TSH results on my lab paperwork that I have from last week, and possibly changing the dosage of my meds to stop the weight gaining. He said, "You're already on the hyper side of the acceptable range, and I can't change them any more or it'll definitely push you even further in that direction." Wants me to try eating more protein and less citrus fruit (has lots of sugar he said) for a month...and see what that does to my weight. Told him I'd try it and see what happens. I'm at my wits end. I know I'll never smoke again, but something's gotta change.

I don't know if you've ever looked deeply into thyroid matters, especially thyroid testing, but it's shameful. Most doctors, particularly endos, are too willing to accept deeply faulty blood tests at face value and without question. This is why most people with hypothyroidism are overweight - because they are hopelessly under medicated.

I'm an exception, because I have a doctor who prescribes my thyroid medication according to symptoms rather than flawed blood tests. And with the correct medication, it's once again possible to lose weight with the standard dieting and exercise. Anyway, I can rant about this subject all day, so I'll stop now.

But for what it's worth, I believe your weight issues are possibly thyroid related. You just have to find a doctor with an open mind.

What sort of gear are you vaping?
My main rig is a Reuleaux RX200 and a Rafale tank. Love the combo. My juice is a DIY My Man Neopolitan. I have several other atomizers that I use regularly: an Atlantis 2, a Smok VTC, a couple of Velocity RDA's, and a Plume Cloud. I also have a couple of 40 watt TC mods that I use some and usually when I'm out of the house because they're small and easy to carry..

Still dont see the connection of vaping and loosing 20 pounds. Not gaining is fine and all. Loosing 20 has nothing to vaping.
Well, I am really making the effort to loose some weight. Every time in my history in the past, after I would successfully loose a lot of weight, I would try to quit smoking. And every time I would gain all of the weight back. Vaping is different for me. Instead of snacking, I vape. Works for me.

That quote cracked me up too. I had a similar experience a few years back, but realized I looked like my just like dad as an older guy - and I'm a woman.

It was very depressing.

But very happy for Fritz!

My Mr. told his doc I'd quit smoking with vaping and she told him he should try it too if he couldn't quit smoking. He had COPD and still smokes.
