1. is vaping the same technique as smoking or once you inhale you quickly exhale? when i smoke i take a drag ( from a cig ) and hold it in a little but with the vaporizer it has a burning feeling in my throat if i do so unless i take a short drag. been playing around with the wattage and regardless it still has that burning sensation.

2. just wondering if 3volts is too low for a 1.0 coil. i just started vaping yesterday and toying around with the settings and find that 11-12watts is okay but the hit in my throat hurts pretty bad and stays there for a while unless i drink water or something and so i changed it to 3volts seems better. less amount of smoke though of course

Throat hit and several other tingles are affected by nicotine level per milliliter, pg %, and voltage/wattage output. Lowering your voltage isn't helping you, then maybe lowering your nic or pg % down. Short pulls are fine to use, most the nic is absorbed in the mouth and nasal passages anyway, maybe 5% of inhaled nic is absorbed in the lungs with vaping. You can get into practice in inhale into the mouth, then without inhaling into your lungs, exhale through your nose. But as it stands right now, I am seeing either your nic is to high, or your PG content is to high, on an 18mg liquid, go down to 12mg, if liquid is a 70PG/30VG step the mixture down to a 50/50

There is a different inhaling technique which works best for vaping. Everyone draws on a cigarette differently, but for most beginner e-cigs using a longer gentler draw works best with cartomizers and clearomizers.

Once you get into the more advanced juice delivery attachments, you'll be able to chose between MTL (mouth-to-lung) or DTL (direct-to-lung) inhaling techniques.

A Word on Vaping Technique

Another tip, when you first began smoking, you likely coughed a lot with a harsh throat. Your body adapted to smoking and those symptoms disappeared. The same is true for vaping. Many new vapers experience a harsh throat and cough when they begin vaping, which gradually goes away once their lungs adapt to vapor.

I often used the "Ohms Plus Two" formula for deciding what voltage to use. The coil's resistance (ohms) is usually known. Add that number to the number "two", and the sum will be a good starting place for voltage used. Adjust + or - to your particular taste.

2 (ohms) plus "2" = 4 volts.

Lower Ohm Coils Will:
  • Heat The Coil Faster
  • Produce More Vapor
  • Drain The Battery Faster
  • Use E-Juice Faster
  • Produce A Warmer Tasting Vape
Higher Ohm Coils Will:
  • Heat The Coil Slower
  • Produce “Less” Vapor
  • Provide A “Cooler” Tasting Vape
  • Use Less E-Juice
  • Prolong Battery Life

yea i think what i meant by 3volts was 3watts i just woke up at that time when posting. how long do you guys typically inhale when vaping? tried to go about 11-13watts as suggested by other users and i can't go very long when inhaling it just gets a harsh throat hit about 3 seconds and im done.

i tried lowering it to about 8 and even 9watts it did fine i could inhale longer, get a smoother hit ( very little to no throat sore ) and it just provided a more pleasant vape experience. the problem with that though that i read is that it could gunk up your coil faster. i probably should lower the nic level to 3mg's currently using a 6mg. just wondering is it okay to vape at 8-9watts atm and slowly raise it as i start vaping more? or am i best off just taking smaller hits at say 11watts and slowly raise it to 13watts. to me it seems the same i mean the flavor, vapor production, etc.. at this point is the same regardless i use 13watts and a 3second hit vs 8-9watts and around a 6-7second hit.
