Yeah eating is like a nicotine hit for me - I do it out of habit and for fun, even when I'm not hungry.
Er yeah, very helpful. About as much help as telling a smoker to 'just give up'.

If it was *that* easy then there wouldn't be any overweight people in the world.

Exactly - and the fact that e-liquid flavors are pretty decent really stimulates your taste buds into wanting to be used.
Since I've stopped smoking tobacco, I have had noticed weight gain. Being able to actually taste food does create an attraction.

I've lost fair amount of weight since I started vaping, but I also quit smoking. I don't think it's a great idea to start vaping if you don't *need* to -- but hey, you're an adult, make your own choice. :)

One thing you might consider is changing out chocolate and such for hard candies or suckers. I've gotten into those in a big way since I stopped smoking. It gives you something to mess with and it tastes good.

I've never been much of a "foodie", so I can't help a lot with your urge to snack. I attribute my weight loss to having more energy and stamina for exercise now that I can actually breathe again, which probably isn't your issue. Have you ever tried taking up knitting, or doodling? I do that when I watch TV, too. I totally understand needing to have something to do with your hands; it was by far the toughest hurdle for me with quitting smoking.

Wow... lotsa strong OPINIONS on weight loss and addiction. Heh! I suspect that weight loss and smoking are like most things in life and end up being a matter of personal choice, responsibility and individual circumstances. I'm pretty sure that it's never one rule fits all.

I haven't noticed any remarkable weight loss since I started vaping but then, my focus has been on quitting analogs and I figured I'd work on one thing at a time.

Oh I must put my 2 cents in,,,,

First off how is your husband doing with vaping. The other part is I see nothing wrong with both of you vaping together. Yours just would be 0 nic....you would be supporting him for his new life choice and he would be supporting you with your alternative to snacking.

The first of the year I started a diet and I am still dieting....end of January I started vaping for a healthier way to get my nic. I know that I enjoy vaping more than analogs and I have found that if I use a juice that is sweet in the evening, than I do not want to snack like I used too. It has helped me in both of my decisions to improve my life. I have never liked exercise other than walking and that was no longer keeping my weight where I needed it to be.

I have read others say that they have gotten down to 0 nic and have decided to keep on vaping....they like the hand to mouth and it relaxes them. I hopefully will get down to 0 nic and I may continue just for the relaxation effect.

Good luck in your decision.....it is good that you are weighing all points of this .....very wise person you are!!!!

Since I started vaping I know I snack less. Most of the time if I want something sweet I just vape it. A box of 6 snack cakes used to last a week and now I forget that they're even in the kitchen and they last a month or more. I don't know how much weight I've lost, but I figure I'll find out when summer gets here and I try on my summer clothes that I couldn't fit into last summer :).

I was a light smoker, on again, off again, and then on again always running out for a pack when I needed the calming and brain sharpening of nicotine. I hated analogs even more after pretty much all that was available was "fire safe" (with even more chemicals). Still, I craved the nicotine. I find that I can still exercise when I've been vaping, and not get winded. I don't have the sinus/throat irritation I had with analogs either. I've always been 10-20 lbs. thinner when I was a smoker vs. not smoking. Now that I'm about 30 lbs over what I weighed through most of my 20's, I'm vaping while eating better and getting exercise.
It does help reduce the hand-to-mouth combat at night - I tend to drink a LOT more water when I'm vaping (which is good!), and helps curb my need to snack while I'm getting dinner together.
Do I have any illusions about it being as "good" for me as not vaping? No.
I don't see it as any different from taking crappy herbal supplements that make me feel jittery - except that vaping doesn't make me feel jittery.
Losing weight, when you've been struggling with it your whole life, is a pain in the .... If you're replacing smoking cigs with vaping, and are able to get exercise and make better food choices because you're getting your nicotine fix (and not frying your lungs) - as long as you're doing so with a conscience mind - I see it as a harm reduction thing.

I can tell you honestly that vaping is the best move I've made in a long time.

Had I carried on the way I was going, I would have got bigger, and bigger, etc.

So far as I'm concerned being overweight is more dangerous than smoking, because being overweight "Always" causes health risks, but smoking is a bit of a gamble, some people simply get away with smoking and live a very long life, the same is not true of being obese.

Make no mistake, I am a nicotine addict, but Im happy to be so, I like how nicotine makes me feel and I like the effects it has on me, including stopping me stuff my face all night.

Thankfully I can afford my habit, and so far as Im aware, there are "NO KNOWN" proven health risks. There may very well be, only time will tell.

But hey, I have done lots of stuff with risks, I like cream cakes and sausage rolls, I exceed the speed limit, I drink to excess on occasion, I swear when the need arises, I've swallowed bubble gum, and pulled a funny face just as the wind was changing.

We all have vices and if it were possible to be perfect and make all the right choices, life wouldn't be so interesting.

As for the post about exercising, get real, thats about as useful as telling someone in a bad mood to smile, or telling someone who smokes to just chew gum instead. A hellava lot easier said than done.

I vap and I like it

I would go so far as to say that vaping without getting the nicotine in your system seems pretty pointless though, but again, Im a nicotine addict so I would say that wouldn't I

I know Im likely to get flamed, but this is how I feel, and this is the internet after all

Glenn

Umm Glenn? I am 30 years old, and have had 4 kids. Yes.... PTing/Exercising does work. It curbs hunger. This has been proven. And I am living proof. TO say that it doesnt work, is like the politicians, and what not saying that vaping doesnt work. We are all living breathing proof that it does. And I am living breathing proof that those simple exercises do work.

OMG! I remember when they started that here in Utah. It was a warm summer evening, and I was smoking on my way to work. Now, I did smoke on my way to work, but it was mostly between my fingers like a security blanket if anything. But That wasnt a problem......
I just kept noticing that when I wanted to take a drag, the ciggie was out! I just thought to myself "Oh gee.... guess there is some humidity in the air." When I brought it up to my co-worker who I was about to relieve, he looked at me in shock and told me that they had fire proofed ciggies. I was a little irked by that..... on the upside though there have been less fires started by them :shrugs:

I think Glenn meant that getting the motivation is the problem. There is no doubt that healthy eating and exercise DOES work but it is implementing it that is the problem.

Re-read my post, I didn't say it didn't work, and I stand by my comment

My wife has got down to her goal weight through a lot of exercise and eating the right food, I'm really proud of her, but I simply cant muster up the enthusiasm, and I don't think I'm alone

Sorry if I offended anyone. I didn't mean to. Everyone has their vices. Hell, I'm a recovering IV ...... addict, currently on and tapering Suboxone.

I'm not saying it's easy. Sorry, wrong word. I meant it is that simple. You can do it, you just have to find motivation. Excercise works wonders. Eating healthy will eventually curb the sweet tooth, too.

If I can get off ......, you can loose weight. Whether it be by vaporizer or changing your eating habits and starting to excersize.

Again, sorry if I offended anyone.

No offence taken, Shatner. It's just that we all know what we should do, but doing it is another matter!!
