Ignore Astron, She is a buffoon.

Just kidding, She hit the nail on the head. Kayfuns are excellent Rebuildable tank Atomizers. They do take a little more work than your aspire, but once you have bought the kanthal and other bits and pieces mentioned in his her post, rewicking and recoiling will take minutes per week and literally cost only pennies.

I always end up with burnt coils after trying this. What's the trick?

I don't know to be honest. There is nothing to burn as the silica won't burn and the coil itself cannot burn. Only thing I can think of is you are allowing the head to get too hot by burning too long and this will scorch the insulators. Once done, it can't be undone. I've been dry burning for more than a year and really never had any issues at all.

Secret I suppose is short pulses and don't allow the head to get crazy hot - that's all I have unless someone else can come up with something. If it doesn't work for you, consider the soak in clear grain alcohol like everclear.

I'm surprised the coil lasted you that long. I was happy with it at first, and even happier after I sold mine. The best I ever did with my Nautilus was 2 days.

I never liked it at all, but then I don't seem to like anything with dual coils. I sold mine the same week I bought it, I hated it so profoundly, and went back to kanger single coils; T3S, mini PT II. Then I got a kayfun lite plus clone, and loved it so much I bought another 2 wks later. I like being the one in charge of the coil! My worst neophyte effort at a coil was better than anything factory built I ever tried.

Question about the cleaning methods y'all mentioned. I'm a truck driver and on the road most of the time. Hot running/boiling water are not easy to come by, possible but not easy. And I definitely can't drive around with a bottle of grain alcohol in the truck. Will rubbing alcohol work? Sorry if that's a stupid question. Any other cleaning methods? thx

I've heard of people using denture cleansing tablets, lemon juice, vinegar, isopropyl alcohol and even hydrogen peroxide (among other things).

I've not tried any of these methods, but from reading and hanging on the ECF, I've seen a lot of people say they had the greatest success with the denture tablets. Just make sure to rinse with clean water afterwards of course.

As for using the rubbing alcohol, I think I have asked the same question back in the day and was told it may leave residues and was not recommended. I defer to others better knowledge on that though...

You don't want to vape any rubbing alcohol...but you could have a batch of a dozen coils in rotation - just clean a whole batch when you've got hot water...

Excellent idea... However, I've never found rubbing alcohol to be a problem, as long as you just rinse really well afterward. Doesn't have to be hot or boiling, just clean running water for a minute or two after the alcohol should do the trick. And if you then give the coil a "dry burn" it will remove any possible trace of alcohol remaining.

I'm an idiot. Should have thought of that. Just got 20 new coils in the mail today so that should work perfectly. Thanks. And thanks to everyone else for all the other great ideas.

To be honest I was actually just researching that and watching a rebuilding tutorial on youtube as I read your post. I think I might pick up a panzer clone + kayfun this weekend.

skip the panzer for the moment and consider getting an SVD by itaste... unless you are already into mechs....
