Hey all! Just back from my annual sojourn to Kenya. This is the first time I've brought my e-cig with me (used to be yucky old analogs). To begin with, Kenya is still pretty cool about smoking but I felt better with my e-cig; in the past I always had this fear, no matter how slight because I was wicked cautious, that I might start a fire in one of the parks. Fires started on purpose for conservation purposes are one thing; fires from a nasty analog are quite another. As with analogs, using the e-cig in the actual camps wasn't a problem (and much more convenient than hauling cartons of cigs); tents in the good camps come with running water AND ashtrays! I used it pretty extensively all over Nairobi and Mombasa with no problems. I didn't find anywhere to actually buy supplies (didn't think I would anyway) so I brought plenty of juice, tons of spare atomizers and batteries. I didn't bring this in my carry on but checked everything. There were a few places I didn't use my e-cig and these are the same places I wouldn't (or couldn't) smoke analogs. One, any of the airports, both the locals for puddle jumper flights and, must especially, Jomo International. If you've ever been to Jomo you know that it's pretty austere, both in decoration AND attitude. Second, wildlife refuges like the David Sheldrick Trust (where I always visit my fostered elephant Burra). They don't allow smoking and the people there are so generous that I don't feel like a lecture on the safety of the e-cig and how it differs from smoking is called for. Third, any of the really poor tribal villages. They have so little that I don't bring any Western gizmos when I visit unless it's to give them away. So, that's about it. If any of you guys are planning on a trip to Kenya rest assured you and your e-cig will be welcome!
