As I just ordered my PV today, I was wondering how it's going with the people from the country where people may not have heard of PV's and may not understand them. Since I live in Ohio, the part that is considered "Appalachian America", I was wondering how people are acting towards you in public places.

I figure that it will be a little more difficult than in somewhere like NYC or LA where people are probably fully aware of what's going on.

Well, I live in a small urban (read redneck) town north of Los Angeles. For the most part... No one notices. I have vaped while walking through our little country market including the check out and in the feed store while talking to the clerks. While not blowing billowing clouds of vapor, someone should have noticed. LOL And just last night at the local restaurant. We were out on the patio. My friend and I were both vaping while having a margarita, she had a DSE901 and I had my VX2 both with blue LEDs. The waiter put an ashtray on the table so he didn't even notice. The other people on the patio never gave a more than a cursory look. ;)
Even the beligerent drunken cowboys never noticed.:D

Today, went to lunch with my daughter and her friend at Olive Garden. They being non-smokers like to lounge around talking after their meal. Me.. I want my fix. We were in a corner, my back to the open area so I discreetly vaped there blowing down... no one noticed.

Oh- Hubby was taking forever in Harbor Freight so I puffed on my 510 a little while shopping ... Nothing. No one noticed.

They don't smell it - they don't even notice it I guess. But you would think someone would see a blue "cherry" and question it. LOL

Just like the big city - small town America doesn't pay attention either. LOL

Right, I guess that I was just more concerned about people not hearing much about them and thinking that I was trying to BS them or something. I got one with a blue led, so it's obviously not going to look like a real cig from a distance, but I wonder if they are going to think that it is still a harmful device.

I'm sure that I will have a lot of explaining to do, just like everyone else does. I was basically just wondering if people get the "What is that fandangled device" response more in the country where less people are likely to have heard about it. Ironically, the reason that I heard about it was that I was in a bar in the college town close to here and a fellow my age was there and told me about it. I'm sure that I won't have much of a problem in that town since it is a college town and they may be a bit more progressive.

I do think that it is positive for us to vape in public and make people more aware of what we are doing since ignorance breeds fear which breeds hate. Especially in areas that are perhaps a little more "backwards" to progressive things.

I am also from an area that is very very known for their um... herbage, even though I am not a user of drugs myself. I just hope that people don't automatically assume that this is some sort of drug device, especially given the reputation of the area that I live in. I guarentee that if I ever get pulled over, the police will be giving it a hard look if they see it.

Neither here nor there
In 'rural' America the people don't feel a need to .... into your business. If it isn't church related, they don't care what you do. They have no desire to impose their beliefs on you, unlike the liberal big cities.

Amen to that! People act like being "rural" is a disability or something.

Gawsh, BillyBob wot is dat dar sigret with the blu fiar? You from the future or sumpin?

I live in a small town in rural Ohio too. No one I work with had ever seen an ecig. I get a lot of questions when I go to the smoking area. A few have said they would like to have an ecig, but I don't think anyone has purchased one. I gave a lady the website address here and advised her to read, read, read before she purchased anything. All in all, they seem pretty happy with analogs so I don't think ecigs will catch on here unless they start selling them at Wal-Mart.

I'm a hick and live in the sticks. When I took my SD out to smoke at the horse show Saturday I announced to the lawn chairs assembled that it was not a crack pipe and proceeded to vape. To my surprise one guy knew what it was because his brother in law is a truck driver and has one. He told me all about how BIL's is shaped and looks just like a real cigarette. So, I had someone to couch for me. A guy who knows me asked me what I was smoking in "that little pipe" so I explained it to him. Of course I've had 2 old guys tell me its worse than smoking and my lawyer friend, who ought to know better, told me its illegal. He was looking it up on the internet when I walked away. He never did come back and tell me he found confirmation.

I figured that a lot of country people would react the way that they did. I have only taken it out in public once since I got it, and that was to a college town where it seemed that a lot of people were aware. However, the county fair starts tomorrow so I look forward to seeing how that goes. You can still smoke analogs at the fair as far as I know, so probably nobody will notice too much.
