The trick to saving a mod that gets wet is first, DO NOT press the fire button to see if it's still working. It's the current flow on a wet board that will nail it. Pull the battery if you can and just let it dry a day or two before checking if it's alright.

I'm not sure, if you drop a battery, by itself, in a bucket of water, does it damage the battery?

I'll go check. Although I might use a plastic container instead of glass and do it outside instead of the kitchen.

Oops.

If I'm not mistaken, I seen an episode of Indoor Smokers where Chris reviewed a waterproof mod.
Waterproof or water resistant? There's a difference. Waterproof means no water can get to the components. Water resistant means it can get wet, but it's not recommended that you submerge it.

Living in the Pacific North Wet and using mechs this topic has me curious.

From my limited searching I have found the following. Water is a relatively poor conductor. Water contaminated cells self discharge at a greater rate than dry cells. Capacity of wet cells falls faster than dry cells.

Source: Effects of water contamination on the electrical properties of 18650 lithium-ion batteries

The entire paper is behind a paywall but the abstract is there.

I'm wondering if "water contaminated" means a wet cell, or water actually getting into the cell?

I think the battery (unvented :?:) is a sealed unit. So I don't think the water would impact it. Neither rice.

This is something I heard somewhere but it is nothing I would ever try myself.
Just buy a new one.

Please correct me if you know I'm mistaken. I'll delete the post ;)

Don't want to spread that dangerous info :)

By the way. Light rain is cool. Torrential downpour? I wouldn't.
Electronics + water = not good

I read somewhere someone talking about their sigelei getting wet when they were working in wet conditions, and their battery started venting/smoking and the device shorting..I think that sounds like a hard short to me?

They said the device was in their pocket, but I don't know the exact situation..(how wet etc )

Luckily vaping nor smoking isn't allowed where I work.....
