Hi all... So I am new to vaping, its true.

I just bought an eVic VTC mini, and Im slowly falling in love with it. However, its a little difficult because Im switching from 'analog' (Im learning lingo!) and I was at about smoking a pack of Newports a day. I was just diagnosed with asthma at age 31 and it was time to quit. My kids have been on my case about it, I feel like crap about it... The asthma... Oh yeah, and the cold that turned into bronchitis... it all just felt like a big sign reading ITS TIME TO STOP!

So like I said, I bought my first vape. I would love some advice and/or recommendations... Anyone else using this vape? Where do you have yours set at? Hows it going for you? Ive been vaping for 3 days and have developed a weeze and I tend to cough on my exhale, not so much on the inhale... I figured out how to 'hit it like a ...., not like a cigarette'... so I am looking for any advice.

Hello @MissGem and welcome to the forum. I'm not much help with that specific mod but I do have a link for health issues (including cough/weeze) which can occur when you switch to vape from the stinkys :

https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/f...g-tobacco-and-changing-to-an-ecigarette.3305/

I also did a search with the search box on the upper right above your name and avatar for "asthma". Any vape related term/word will work there.

https://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/search/2346507/?q=asthma&o=relevance&c[node]=39

Congrats on your journey, enjoy!

Thank You, I was just looking for the search bar! lol

I appreciate the help, I really need to learn more... I also have someone I have to convince to switch, well, a few people actually...

Welcome. :)

The eVic mini is the power, it's what you put on it (the atomizer) that is important really (i.m.o).

I'm guessing it comes with a Joyetech tank, so I'm no help on that front. I expect it's a high power/high airflow affair. I'd be wheezing on anything but a low (ish) setting, but everyone is different.

It took me two years to bust through the 10w barrier. :)

(No shame here about that)

My nephew is using a Joyetech Evic VTC Mini, based upon my recommendations. I had seen several reviews on YouTube for this APV which were good, and Joyetech is a long-time reputable company.

There's a lot to learn when transitioning from smoking to vaping. They are not one and the same, however their similarities offer an excellent opportunity to stop smoking for a safer alternative to smoking. You may find some useful information in the below links and blogs to help with your transition.

Hello, and welcome! Congrats on your journey.
What is troubling me is your statement about 'hitting like a ..., not a cigarette'.
This is true if you have airflow, not true if you have a starter kit like an EVOD with limited airflow. If you are 'hitting' a limited airflow tank like a doob, that will most definitely cause coughing on the exhale.
Please provide more info on what setup you are using and we (Meaning collectively) will be more than happy to help you out.

Alright, let's see if I get this right.

I am using a Joyetech eVIC vtc mini, comes with an eGo ONE mega VT atomizer (Nickel .2 Resistance?). It does have adjustable airflow; mine is wide open. My current settings are on 580 degrees F, 14.0 Watts, .20 Atomizer.
 Is that what you need?

Oh and I started with 8 MG of Nic, no bueno... I had puffed 700 times in 24 hours to curve the nicotine anxiety... I bought 18 MG to start weaning off.

Im trying to research on how to tweak this thing... I have no idea where to even start, lol. So many options!

Nothing fancy... but I really have no idea what I am doing. I realize I prefer the wide open flow over the limited airflow, higher temp makes it burn better/taste better, and the watts any lower makes me feel like I am doing nothing. This allows me to go upto 60 watts, but I dont even know where it is recommended for watts.

The Ego One tank that usually comes with the evic can be configured a lot of different ways. I don't want to complicate this but it is available in ni (nickle) for temperature control mode, or kanthal for wattage mode. Also with the kanthal you can .5 ohm, 1.0 ohm, or clr (rebuildable coils). It also has adjustable airflow.

I'm more of a lower wattage, tight airflow kind of vaper...try to replicate smoking. I use the clr coils at 1.0 ohms. I turn the airflow down to just a small hole. I use the evic on wattage mode and turn it way down to 7.8-8.0 watts. That's what works for me...YMMV.

I started vaping on recommendation from my asthma specialist when my asthma came raging back after about 15 years of being almost nonexistent. For about the first week of vaping and being completely off analogs, I coughed sometimes upon exhale and had a pretty tight/painful feeling in my chest. By the second or third week my asthma was virtually gone. I have not used a maintenance inhaler or rescue inhaler since I quit analogs almost 4 months ago.

I personally do not like a direct lung hit. I vape just like I smoked analogs, mouth to lung. I use a very basic stick style set-up though. The guy at a local vape thought it rather comical that I still use a stick style and hit it like an analog :) Oh well, I am happy and still not smoking!

So MsGem, you are using your device and tank in TC mode, so you are getting really hard hits. I would switch out to a 1.0 kanthal coil and put the mod in wattage mode at around 12 to 15 watts, then use the smallest airflow on your tank. This will make your mod more of a toodle puffer for mouth to lung hits and should help with your coughing wheezing issue. You will still get good hits on the lower wattage not in TC mode. In Tc mode the higher settings work better. You can take your device back to the store you got it at and they should be able to help you with the right coils and settings for your device. just tell them you want mouth to lung not sub ohm. hope this helps

My dear sister, You found yourself upstairs without using stairs. Firstly I have no idea about your set up but have read enough about it that it is a good set up.
These devices are built mostly for advanced vapers for lung inhale. But using any liquid with more than 6mg/ml will cause you coughing. Not recommended. Still you can use 1 ohm or more coils to use with 18 mg/ml but you have to close airflow to a degree that you will get the vape into your mouth and inhale afterwards.
Happy vapings

and BTW... you will notice changes to your system, the majority of them from the quitting the ciggies... not from starting vaping :) too many people confuse the effects of stopping the ciggies to starting the vape... for example... stopping the ciggies allows the body to get rid of all that crud in the lungs... but the reaction is "oh I started vaping now Im coughing up all of this crud... must be the vaping causing it"....

Beautifully put.

I can't help, as vaping this hardware is beyond my long-time tootle-puffer (ish) status.
Using temp control at 580f and a 0.2 ohm coil would have me gasping on the floor and begging for a 64oz soda.

If you liking it, enjoy. If not... turn it down!

TLDR - I'd be coughing (and wheezing) and more thirsty than a rattlesnake discovering the 7 Eleven had run out of Grape Slushy.

:)

:D:D:D I honestly dont even know if I like it yet, trying to see if the occasional coughing and choking goes away... I keep feeling it's a matter of breaking in and not that it's too rough? I definitely want to look into switching to kanthal coil and see how that works. I thought I wanted to have something similar to a cigarette pull, minimal airflow... but after trying the full open airflow, mouth to lung hit, I find I like that better... just need to find the right setting where it doesnt kill me on the exhale... I did however wake up better today, no wheezing. But I did forget my vape at home this morning... Trying my best not to give in to analog right now... :censored:
