Hey everyone, what's going on? I'm Tyler, and I'm looking to quit smoking cigarettes in favor of a healthier alternative. Of course e-cigs would be the way to go, so I've already put a little bit into getting my first build going. I don't know a whole lot about ohms and wattage or voltage and what all that means, but I guess that's why I'm here haha. I'm really interested in learning more about this and turning it into a full-time hobby. Right now I'm using a iTaste VV 3.0 mod with a Patriot rba clone which is working pretty well, I must say. I still don't know how to build coils, the guy at the headshop was nice enough to do it for me. Anyways, this is just sort of my intro post since that feels appropriate. I look forward to learning more about the world of e-cigs and getting to know you all. Vape on :D

Yeah, I'm not just sure where to start! From the outside perspective, all these terms like ohms and wattage are just really overwhelming, combined with the technical terms that the community uses like coils, heads, wicks, pins, etc. It's all just a lot to take in, but I'll look into it.

You don't have to start building right off the bat. It obviously sounds like that's your goal, but switching from cigarettes to vaping has a learning curve no matter how you approach it.

You have a nice mod. Personally, if I was in your position I would get an easy to use tank, like a Nautilus, so I could be vaping while I figured out the terminology and technical aspects of building. Frequently, after members spend time on the forum they end up knowing more than the guys in vape shops. It's a fun hobby, but first and foremost is to get you off the smokes.

Welcome, Tyler... if you're looking to learn the ins and outs of vaping, this is the place to do it!! There is definitely no shortage of information here, and plenty of friendly people to help you along...
Ocelot's suggestion of an Aspire Nautilus is perfect... it vapes great with the new BVC (Bottom Vertical Coil) that was designed for the Nautilus Mini (also works with the standard Nautilus)
But if you get the BDC (Bottom Dual Coils) that were designed for the standard Nautilus, you can practice by rebuilding those coils on your own as well...
This way you could buy coils to use and also be able to rebuild your own coils as you desire...

*Side Note*
I do not believe that the new BVC coils are rebuildable...

I agree...RDA's are kind of advanced. I would definitely get a couple of kanger tanks or a nautilus and have those around to vape while you get used to the RDA.

However, rebuilding is where you eventually want to go for sure. What you really want is a kayfun/russian/fogger style RTA for that iTaste mod you have. Match made in heaven.

But any way you slice it, just make sure you always have a back-up setup, and a back-up for your back-up. Once you're off the cigs, the last thing you want to do is put yourself into a situation where you have no working vape, and are tempted to just go grab a pack of smokes.

I don't consider BVC's rebuildable, but I won't go as far as saying they aren't, since someone at some point is going to try to do it. You know they will.

And to Tyler - you need to be vaping while rebuilding. Trust me. It's difficult to focus on wrapping coils when one is in the midst of a major nicotine fit.

Thanks guys for the input :D I've actually been using electronic cigarettes for a while now, but I've been off and on cigarettes in between having a working rig. In fact, the Patriot I'm working with currently I only bought this morning. When I woke up, I went to smoke a cigarette first thing, took one draw and threw it down in disgust. Immediately I left to get a working atomizer :p My old one was an iClear 30s, I don't know what happened to it. I think it lost connection with the battery and just wasn't firing. But now I've got this Patriot and it's working like a champ! The only problem I'm having with it is that the bottom O-rings aren't keeping the casing on it very well. But I think I already understand the basics of building, since I managed to rebuild this coil on my own. I've heard a lot of things about the Nautilus from friends, so I'll definately check it out! It's always good to have backup parts :)

I'm still a broke college student, so yesterday I actually ordered a Kraken clone and a Sentinel M16 from FastTech. I couldn't wait for it any longer, so I went out and got this temporary setup haha

Glad to hear you are making the move it is a lot of fun. As much crap as he gets if you really want a nice intro into the world or rebuildables go to youtube and watch some of RIP Trippers videos, they are not all perfect and I wouldn't take his owrd on everything but he is very good at explaining the different nomenclature throughout vaping and his tutorials for building are spot on. Either way you learn glad to have you. Vape On!
