Just skip my post and go straight to the next one, dcfluegel pretty much summed everything up with links :)

That is a big question with even bigger answers. Best to start small and start safe. Lets crack the egg open slowly.

Before you go diving into making coils and Advanced mods with VV/VW (variable voltage & wattage) what is your aim? Are you coming from smoking looking for a safer alternative? Great starters such as Cigalikes or something similar with a tighter draw helps simulate smoking as you transition over.

Help us help you. Give us an idea to work off of. And, of course, welcome to the Forum!

Hey all! I'm new to the vaping world and don't have a clue about much. I have no idea what different wattage does, what the difference is between tanks, coils, etc.. Any information that would help me on my new journey would be awesome!

Thanks!

here is some info that was put together by another member, @Susan~S

If you are interested in learning more about e-cigarettes (and all the parts and pieces) below is a blog post (are some blog posts) by ECF member @Baditude that I highly recommend for someone new to vaping.

Here are a few more links from New Members Information <= Link covers many topics. Here are two of them:

Nicotine

A "general guideline" for nicotine concentration in e-liquid to the number of cigarettes smoked per day. If you are subohming (resistance under 1.0Ω) cut these nicotine levels by at least 50%.

06 mg = 10 cigarettes or less

12 mg = 20 cigarettes

18 mg = 30 cigarettes

24 mg = 40 cigarettes

eLiquid/Juice

PG = Propylene Glycol - the "flavor carrier" of e-liquid. A secondary source of "throat hit", but not as strong as the nicotine concentration. Some people have a sensitivity or even an allergy to PG. It's very thin.

VG = Vegetable Glycerin - the "vapor maker" of e-liquid. Used as a sweeter in many food sources, and also as a skin emollient. It's very thick. Often labeled just "Glycerine"

PG and VG are often used together in different ratios in e-liquid. For example, a 50/50 PG/VG ratio. Some juice vendors offer a range of different ratios as far as PG/VG.

wattage is basically like power. the higher the number the more power, too high can be a bad thing, too low can also be bad it ALL depends on your build. coils are basically your bread and butter your device heats up your coils which then vaporizes the juices in your cotton/wick and you inhale the vapor. tanks are basically like a water bottle. they hold your juice they come in various styles and vape differently. they are more for the On the go you just fill the tank up and vape away until it's empty. RDA's are Rebuildable Dripping Atomizers which is basically where you build your coils, wick it yourself, coat your wicks with juice manually and vape. their is NO tank to hold the juice their is a something called a juice well that catches excess juice but you really can't store much juice in them and if you do it will spill. RTA's are rebuildable tank atomizers which are basically like RDA's but with a tank to hold your juice.

I suggest you buy a mod, buy a tank and work with that until you learn more about RDA's and RTA's then move onto those. do not purchase a mech mod if you are new. mech mods are basically unregulated mods for more advance vapers they fire at whatever your coils are set too if I recall correctly. unlike regulated mods that have chips in them they will shut off or something if something is wrong like your atomizer isn't on.

seems new but trust me it gets MUCH easier and better as you literally get your first mod and start vaping. just started about 2 months ago or less then 2 months I've learned so much and still learning. of course take what I say with a grain of salt I'm no expert I just tried to briefly explain some stuffs I thought I had a hard time with. I do own a RDA and RTA and make my own coils and all that so it isn't so hard to learn after you get into it. simply watch video's on youtube to help and buy the right materials for safety reasons.

Wow! Thanks for the responses! I just recently got the ijust 2 but will eventually want to go further. I just recently started smoking again after quitting for 2 yrs so I want to switch to vaping. I smoke Marlboro special blend menthol. I just ordered some menthol flavored samples from vape wire online so we'll see how they are. I eventually want something that tastes good, hits like a cigarette, and makes a nice cloud.

clouds are produced by VG and PG is the flavor carrier so more VG = better clouds more PG= better taste and throat hit. of course you need to tweak it like air flow and your atomizer and all that. I suggest getting into DIY juices ASAP saves you a LOT of money and it is easy as hell to make lots of recipes on here if you need them. if you can follow a cooking recipe you can make Ejuice really isn't that hard at all tons of vids on youtube as well showing how to mix your own batch.

Hello @MMashike , and welcome to the forum! Congrats and good luck on quitting the cigarettes! Lots of VERY friendly, helpful, knowledgeable people around who love to help out! The search tool is a good line of defense in learning, and usually anyone who posts in a new members thread would be delighted to get a "conversation" (private message) with any questions you might have.

Some VERY nice people around. Looking forward to seeing more of you!
