I unexpectedly found out this last week that I'm pregnant. I quit smoking through vaping a few months ago now and I have, over that time period, tapered from 24mg down to 3mg juice. I now only vape 3mg juice; never higher. I have the Sigelei Fuchai 213W but I only run it at 70W at the highest. Is this something I need to consider quitting all together in order to have a healthy pregnancy? Thank you.

I don't know how comfortable you are reading scientific studies, but this may interest you: Nicotine Gum for Pregnant Smokers: A Randomized Controlled Trial

I would consider vaping similar to nicotine gum. The important thing is to not smoke. While it would likely be best for you to not do anything during your pregnancy, if you feel you'd go back to smoking, or that quitting vaping would cause you increased stress and anxiety, vaping may be for the best. You should, of course, consult with your doctor.

Congratulations and good luck.

Not a doctor, but I thought about this as if you were my wife...lol.

I'd tell her that not doing anything is the best option. If you feel like you're going to smoke and the only way to keep you from smoking it to vape, then vape!

Congrats!!! Both of our kids were "suprises" as well. Good luck!

personally I see it like drinking caffeine... #2 was born on vaping and #3 is due in less than 3 months if my wife wasn't vaping she would likely smoke from the stress of being beat up from the inside and other environmental factors like work stress. Nobody can decide for you but if it is a choice between elevated stress or nicotine i pick nicotine for my unborn child.

In my opinion, nothing would be best but vaping would be better than smoking. It was always insanely hard for me to quit smoking during my pregnancies and I never managed to quit until the second trimester, with a return to smoking a few months after each birth. If I had been vaping at the time I can't say that I would have quit. I know I would have been less obsessed with making sure to get the 3rd hand smoke off my hands, face and clothes after birth.

Millions of women have continued to smoke cigarettes during their pregnancies over the last 100 years and ended up having perfectly healthy babies. I'm not advocating that women do this, just saying it's a fact.

I think your decision to suspend vaping while pregnant will primarily lie with your feelings toward nicotine. Nic crosses the placenta and is also detectable in breast milk. Have you thought about 0 nic as an option? In any event, nicotine is not known to cause birth defects.

Well I see it like this... I am not currently pregnant nor have ever been (that I know of), but I know I would not be able to quit caffeine ever, and nicotine is quite similar to caffeine. If I were to become pregnant, I know the stress would be killer seeing as at this point in my life I don't want kids. Being that I would be seriously stressing I would need some nicotine, be it 3 mg or 1.5 mg. So yes I would vape with nicotine, as long as the changes in my body don't react negatively to it. ;)

Keep in touch with your doctor about any and everything you experience. OH and Congratulations!!!!

Very irresponsible of you to ask that question to people in an Internet forum who aren't doctors. So far your off to a bad start as a mother by needlessly risking the health of your baby. You can't even eat seafood while your pregnant, you expect vaping to be safe?

    Ask your doctor.

Wow, that's a bit judgemental. Of course, she should speak with her doctor, but there's nothing wrong with asking people who may have gone through a similar situation for advice.

Btw you can eat seafood, just want to try to avoid those that are likely to have high mercury content.

OB's are not different from other doctors, what they say will be colored by their own views, which may or may not have basis in medical fact. Hopefully the op, and any woman who gets pregnant, has the opportunity and means to find a doctor that is a good fit for them.

Do you have some specific reason to believe intermittent low level nicotine exposure during pregnancy is such a horrible idea? The study I posted, while somewhat small scale, seems to suggest no adverse affects on gestation time or birth weight.

Ridiculous! You do realize doctors know about this in more of a cause and effect way...meaning peoples EXPERIENCES are why doctors know what they know, not some divine intelligence. Yes she should consult her physician, but asking others to calm a rush of anxiety is also very helpful in reducing stress on the pregnant mother.

My doctor recently told me vaping is as bad for me as smoking, so I wouldn't assume all doctors have a clue about vaping and risks.

I personally would avoid vaping, but would vape a bit if I really needed some nic. Vaping 0% (or very low %) NIC is another option.

Congrats! We have 3 kids and "baby oops" is 16 years younger than her oldest brother. :D I wouldn't trade it for anything.:)

As previously said and I'm not here to pass judgement, this is strictly my opinion which is what was asked in this thread. I'd rather go vapeless for a few months than travel the road untraveled. Have there been woman in the past who vape through their pregnancies? I'm sure there have been. However, every person is an individual, you can't automatically think it's safe just because someone else did it and was ok.

You have to ask yourself is it worth the risk? Would I potentially jeopardize myself and a unborn baby? Honestly I would heavily consult a doctor and if you really couldn't resist I'd try some nicotine gum instead. I'm not passing judgment but I love my kids more than life itself, to potentially put them in harms way over my own habits is just not something I or my wife would do.

How would nicotine gum be any safer... Not a logical argument there. Fear mongering wont get anybody anywhere. I realize that is your opinion of what you would do but why would you substitute nicotine for nicotine that is less enjoyable?

Big difference, nicotine has nothing to do with anything. Gum you chew, but chemicals you inhale... you share your lungs when you're pregnant. Like I said that was just my opinion but honestly comparing gum to inhaling artifical chemicals is a night and day difference and no I don't mean the nicotine any flavoring is artificially made and contains chemicals no long term studies of anything out there has been proven to be safe in the long term much less for babies in the womb. We don't even know the effects of VG and PG in infant undeveloped babies which is a whole different can of worms than in humans.

So if you were concerned with the flavoring, go unflavored...much more logical step than going to gum... and you cannot be certain what if anything other than nic is passed along the umbilical cord.

Paranoid fear mongering. I have 1 child 3 years old developing wonderfully and my wife vaped the entire time. Have another child due end of April and wife is vaping.

It is my opinion it is no more harmful than drinking caffeinated soda.

I also DIY all my own juice so i do know whats in my juices and over 50% of my juices are all naturally flavored with real fruits...

Chewing nicotine gum has already been documented as safe for pregnant mothers, passing stuff through the umbilical cord doesn't even make any sense as the solution is dissolved into the blood stream.

Case Study: Nicotine Gum for Pregnant Smokers: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Also, unflavored did you read my entire post? PG and VG while perfectly fine (for most people) is a whole new subject and case study when it comes to infant babies, particularly an undeveloped fetus.

Clearly you need to understand more about pregnancy. There are many substances in the mothers blood that will not pass all the way through the umbilical cord....

There is not enough to say it WONT hurt an unborn child but there is also NOT enough to say it WILL hurt the unborn child. Fear mongering doesnt help. Pros vs Cons of increasing stress by trying to drop it completely.

We can agree there is not enough information.

    Medicine: Air Germicide

1942 Study: Health Benefits of Inhaled Propylene Glycol

SO if you want to grasp at straws 100% PG Unflavored LOW dose of Nic 1-3mg/ml BAM
