First off, I know the title seems a bit harsh, but I say it with a bit of a laugh. I find it quite funny personally due to how into the other hobby I was some years back. I speaking of Hookah. For those who don't know, hookah is another way to smoke tobacco, granted if you ask me and quite a few of the other hookah smokers I used to have long and headache inducing talks with, hookah is a bit more simillar to vaping then any other kind of tobacco product. Thats not what we are talking about, but its a subject I have much time invested in so if anyone is curious, I'd be happy to elaborate. But hookah is a type of water pipe, used to smoke a specific type or tobacco.
Not too long after I passed my 18th birthday, I got my first hookah and fell madly in love. I quickly joined up to the Hookah Forums, and within a few months was a moderator and one of the members with the most posts ( I was young and had nothing else to do at night...). Eventually though life got in the way, and I just never had time to set aside and enjoy smoking a bowl of Starbuzz Peach.
Its funny, I was actually still active the first time I dipped my toes into the world of vaping, and remember sitting in a chat room with the guys and gals from the forums, and talking about how it was going with my Volcano Inferno T (for those who remember that version). But I eventually quite both vaping and hookah, as life took a few unexpected and quite difficult turns.
But that was then, when hookah was facing tons of possible new legislation, as just like vaping today, big tobacco was a bit worried about their proffit margins, and were seeking to end what I so dearly loved. Tonight while waiting for a storm to pass, i decided to hop back on the hookah forums, and found the place to be quite lacking in activity. Few new threads had been made, and on the first page of the main section, there were threads whose newest posts were quite a few days ago.
Its sad to see something I loved and was so invested in fall soo much by the wayside, but while I enjoyed it and felt that it, kinda like vaping, was no where near as harmful as cigarettes, I do understand why. Hookah was something that took time, and effort to do. It was meant to sit down with, and enjoy either by yourself with a nice drink, or with friends passing the hose back and forth. Now the world has moved onto vaping, and I hear about so many friends I had in the hookah world leaving there hoses behind in favor of Mechs and Regulated joy.
This thread is me just waxing poetic a bit I guess you could say, but I do find it funny how the times have changed in a few short years. Who knows, someone might come along and make me my dream Personal Vaporizer Hookah one of these days XP
TL;DR version: Hookah seems to be falling by the wayside as vaping gains steam. I understand some might feel thats good as it was still smoking tobacco, but I don't feel it was anywhere near what cigarettes were.
