Hey guys, have enjoyed reading your posts, love the site have been reading for couple of months, and vaping bout 10 weeks,

Over the last month I have become extremly depressed, I have had mental health promlems for years, and have not had an episode this bad for years.
I have been in great control of my illness for the last few years, and not smoking analougs is the only major change in my life recently.

I am really interested in the comments bout MAIO's in cigarettes, although I have always used SSRI anti depressents, I am starting to think this is why my Doctor has always told me not to give up.
I desparately want to stick with vaping, but have started getting agraphobic and sucisidal thoughts, I am on top dose of meds and cannopt up it anymore.

Would really appreciate your thoughts and any further studies/info you could pass on about MAIO in cigarettes.

Thanks Kora

You might not be getting some of the "highs" that you are used to with the chemicals in analogues. Also your smoking rituals have changed.

Do you still go out to vape at work or at home like you used to?

I find I do better with vaping, but mostly because I have a lot of toys to polish, batteries to charge... junk to organize.. keeps me busy.

You may consider talking to your doctor, it may just take an adjustment of your medications.

I don't know anything about it, but you might try doing a search for it in the health sub-forum. I haven't completely quit analogs yet, so I can't really empathize yet, but if I was feeling like you are, I would have already scheduled an appointment with my doctor.

Contact your Dr. ASAP! If you are feeling that bad it`s past time to let him/her know. Also, smoke an analog or two if you must and don`t beat yourself up over it. What`s a couple compared to what you used to if you are like most on here?

Ditto on what zbasspro says!!!!

Don't fool around with this Karaoke - you need to see your Doc. More than likely, you will need some med adjustments.

I have Bi-polar disorder, severe, chronic. I was vaping and smoking for about a week. Told my psych doc about what I was doing and she kept a close eye on how I was doing. We discussed upping my meds, adding some new meds to get me over the hump if it came to that.

Please, please, post back and let us know how you are doing. If you need to talk to someone or vent, pm me, I'll listen. You are not in this alone.

Yes please do contact your doctor. We are trying to push people to vape to feel better not worse!

There are pills that can be taken that can help so you can avoid analogs, but I'd just see the doctor and get back to normal before quitting again. It can be difficult, you don't need extra problems.

I hope you feel better, it can be a lot of factors, but I know none of that helps ease the pain.

Have you checked out www.crazymeds.us? There is a whole thread on the forums about how nicotine works on the brain of people that are mentally interesting.

I'm bipolar and smoking an analog was the first thing I did when I started feeling manic.

I've also experience med poop outs, so your medication could just need tweaking. Geodon works great for my moods and thats all I really need to stay ok, but I've blown through multiple antipsychotics, antidepressants, etc trying to find something to help me sleep. When I don't sleep, things get bad

Agree will WaffleStomper, jj2 and zbasspro. See a doctor, don't give up, smoke an analog or two and DON'T beat yourself up!

You rock for sharing this with us BTW! You'll find a very supportive group of folks in here. Let us know whenever you need support or just a good ole dose of gratuitous encouragement. :) Keep your chin up and be good to yourself!

I know what you mean about the agoraphobia thing. Since I've been vaping I've almost become reclusive. I'm avoiding people more and dread going to social functions.

Not on any psych meds though, but my mother is bipolar to the hilt. Maybe there was something in the cigs that gave an extra mood lift?

There is a connection to schizophrenia and smoking. A very high percentage of schizophrenics and bipolars I think as well smoke cigs.

Hi and Welcome

I went through the same thing and I do take a maoi. I had also just decreased my dosage. I had to go back up for awhile before I got back to where I was. I am not suggesting you do this, I am no doctor. I just wanted to let you know that it does get better.:)

I would do what everyone else suggested and see your doctor. Depression and panic attacks are nothing to fool around with.

I wish you well, and I do believe it will get better.

It WAS very brave of you to post this. Good for you. Seems like we have identified a new Social Group we might start.

I too have struggled with depression all my adult life. The discovery of SSRI's have allowed me to have something close to a normal life. The closest I ever came to being hospitalized was when I quit smoking about 5 years ago. My Doctor told me to start smoking again. I have watched my mood closely since going off the smokes this time and on to the e-cigarette. For whatever reason, the e-cigarettes have brought me all the satisfaction and comfort that analoges did. Hearing your story makes me feel lucky that that has been the case.

I see that you are in London. I also would say to get to your Doctor ASAP, but I would add that you might want to talk to someone training at a Medical School there. Often times they are the ones knowledgeable in the latest research and much of what is coming out about the relationship between smoking and the brain is new, changing daily.

I will pray for you and please, please let us know how you are doing. You have to have 5 posts before you can PM anyone, so get your numbers up quickly so if you need some one on one connection you'll be able to contact one of us that has offered. Good luck and feel free to PM me.

To me, the real scary issue is WHAT IN THE HECK ARE THEY PUTTING IN CIGARETTES that we would have such a problem when we stop using them???? I know that American cigarette companies have been systematically increasing the levels of nicotine by a significant amount in the past several years to make sure we stay addicted to their product, but what else have their little nefarious minds been working on? How did anti-depressants get into cigarettes? I am just amazed.

Where in the heck is the FDA on this issue????

This is very interesting, and I really am glad your brought this topic up.

I firmly believe, that if you are taking maximum doses of antidepressants and you are still depressed you need to switch medication.

I know patients who have tried changing their medication 5~6 times before they found what really worked for them.

Secondly, I do know a woman who is more depressed since she started vaping and stopped analogs.
She does not get a "high" from vaping that analogs gave her before, especially in the morning.

I suspect that analogs raise our seratonin levels whereas vaping only deals with the nicotine addiction.

Again, god only knows what they place in analogs so as to achieve a seratonin increase.

Thanks for sharing this with us. Please consult your doctor, there are hundreds of antidepressants you can switch to. I know one or more will work.

I just had to laugh at that!! I tell my family that I provide free entertainment for them.:D

However, people who tick me off, I tell them I have a wood chipper and can get away with it because I'm "Mentally Ill".
You should see the looks I get with that!!

I can sooooooooooo relate. My previous Dr. was obessed with how much sleep I got.

I second that. We sure could use a group like this. It also helps reduce the stigma associated with mentally interesting people. We're also a "special" sub group of vapers - we have more to contend with than just quitting cigs.

I agree with all the posters here. If you can't pm one of us, post it so someone can get in contact with you. Remember, you're not alone in this.
HUGS your way. Hang in there!!

OP, don't feel alone. When I first quit analogs I got really depressed. Went to see my dr and he put me on Welbutrin, hated the way it made me feel. Then I discovered vaping and no longer needed the drugs. Once again I am a happy camper.

So, maybe you can try that. Get on a anti depressant for about 2 months, that's how long I was on it. Then continue to vape.

Good luck to you and we are all here for you anytime.

I am new to the forum and have recently ordered my first e-cig kit. Just waiting for it to arrive. What I am about to say is not meant to scare people because everyone is different. Its a private thing to me and was a nightmare. Some people will encounter side effects or health issues and some don't after quitting. I have been smoking cigarettes for 32 years. This is what scares me about quitting smoking and possible side effects.

I quit smoking dope cold turkey back in 1995 for good. I quit between 1991 to 1993, but started again from 93 to 95 before giving it up for good. After about 3-4 months I started having all kinds of health issues. Problems with my head (like a bomb went off in my brain/head). It was so bad after so many times I dropped to my knee's crying and praying to god for them to stop. Soon after it did go away. Then I had eyes, ears and panic attack problems. I thought the world was coming to an end and didn't want to go out in public. It was one thing after another. I knew it was quitting the drugs that brought me all these health issues. Some of the side effects lasted for years. The panick attacks lasted only about a month. I felt better and normal when I was smoking dope even to this day.

I truly believe quitting cold turkey isn't a good idea. It stuns your system into shock real hard. I recommend when quitting something to take it slow. Cut down your intake little at a time until your down to 1-2 smokes a day. People/doctors always say just quit cold turkey. I don't believe in this theory.

I am going to say one more thing, and remember everyone is different and these are probably rare cases. My friends Father-In-Law after quitting smoking lost his eyesight. The doctor told him in 3 weeks your eyesight should return. Sure enough 3 weeks later his eyesight returned. I wish my friend would have never told me that because its stuck in my head now and knowing what I went through. Considering that I suffered side effects with dope. Quitting Cigs might give me the same problems. Side effects isn't something people talk about too often. Doctors won't even tell you because they don't want to scare people off. I wish this subject didn't have to be my first post, but it is what it is.
