Thought I’d weigh in on my experiences with the vapor shark thus far. Obviously, I have the bias of someone who went ahead and purchased the thing – so do bear that in mind. The thing I *love* about this mod is the form factor. Pictures / videos don’t do it justice here, you have to hold it in your hand. It is exactly the right size to fit very comfortably in your palm. Yes, it is extremely stealthy, but still just large enough to feel, well, right in the hand. The weight on it is wonderful. Just enough to feel *solid* and well built, but not one bit clunky. It feels precise – as do the buttons which are positioned just right.

A quick aside: I have a whole range of toppers in my life – gennies, carto tanks, protanks, rdas, etc. but out of all of them, I find myself using the GP spheroid the most. Built correctly, it comes very (very!) close to my best genesis devices – but has a small form factor, still holds about 3 mils, does not leak, and does not look like a science experiment. So I take my spheroids with me everywhere – and enjoy the rest of my toppers at home.

Reason for telling you all that is that the vapor shark is an excellent match for my spheroids (or any other smaller form factor toppers, I would imagine). My bigger devices – gennies, full size protanks, etc. seem out of proportion with it, and make it top heavy. Mind, you it fires everything just fine – and I have yet to find something that won’t successfully mate with the 510 on this. But if you like small form factor toppers, then you will enjoy how they sit on this device.

OK, next point: As others have said, I agree that I’d be happier if I could swap batteries on this thing, rather than having to USB it every time it needs a charge. However, having a small DNA device like this also has its advantages, particularly with the spheroids. My builds for these are nearly always between 1.0 and 1.2 ohms such that I can use them and get good performance on my mechanicals. But, that means that regulated devices won’t usually fire them. The vapor shark does so very well, and gives me the advantage of running some juices hotter than others – all while remaining very small. I don’t care to carry around a cyborg size mod. Fine for home – but not the road.

Now, as to battery life, for 1200 mah, this thing actually lasts longer than I would expect. If I keep it at 12 watts or under (on 1-1.2 ohm load) I get about 6 hours of moderate to heavy vape time out of it. Impressive, actually. On the other hand, if I go sub-ohm, or go up above ~15 watts, I get more like 4.5 hours. Still not bad, for what it is. Actually, Busardo said that he was getting about 9 hours with a 1.5 ohm load at 9 watts – and that sounds about right to me. In fact, I could up the resistance on my spheroids and milk the battery for some extra time – but the rub there is I want my spheroids to fire well on all my devices (mechs included) and for my tastes, 1-1.2 is the place to be.

Now the last piece of the puzzle: I constantly rotate between three different flavors during the day (my taste buds die off otherwise). So, I *always* have three mods with me at all times (don’t care to constantly screw and unscrew toppers). This was all well and good back in my cigalike days, but who wants to cart around three vamos? So, for quite a while, I’ve been carrying three k100 (mechanicals) in 18350 mode when I go out. That works well enough, but I always wished I could find a regulated option that would be smaller and more comfortable to hold.

And, that, my friends, is the use case for the vapor shark. I’ll be ordering two more, which will bring me to a total of 3600 mah in my bag – enough for a full day out. The end result: entirely portable, regulated devices that will allow me to have at-a-grasp access to the three flavors I like – each fine tuned the way I want them. Think of the vapor shark like a regulated, box shaped cigalike that can fire anything you put on it and do so for 4-9 hours.

Last impressions: This device is very well made. Unlike Bussardo’s unit (which I suspect may have been a prototype), mine came with completely clean seams, no visible tape in the screen area, and not a scratch on it. The up and down buttons are black (instead of the stainless you’ll see in Phil’s video). The 510 connection looks to be good quality stainless, and I think the threads should last me a good long while. And the DNA itself performs really, really well. *Such* a smooth vape this thing provides. I will say, if you are typically a low wattage vaper (6-8 watts), depending on your topper, there may be times when the DNA can’t go low enough for you (others have written about this). I will also note that the silk screened logo on the side will rub off the minute you get juice on it. That was fine by me, I had no need to be advertising for vapor shark, and the black anodizing underneath the logo is untouched. In the end, I have only one real gripe: Too damn expensive, especially because if you are like me, you need more than one. If Evolve could figure out how to achieve a better economy of scale, devices like this could be commonplace. Seems to me the ACTUAL value of the components involved could be profitably sold at 50 bucks or less. $170 is a lot of scratch, so unless you have a really compelling use case like mine, you might want to look elsewhere.

Hope this helps!

The vapor shark is my first dna 20. Great mod. A lot heavier than I thought it would be. I have been using it with pt II's at 1.8 - 2.3 ohms, 8 to 10 watts. Battery life really good for the size. I have been using 3 to 4 tanks before plugging it in (still not dead yet).

The price is high, but compared to other small dna 20 box mods made of plastic not too bad.

Now to find a holster that will fit it. I'm thinking multi-tool should work.

I guess to me, ANY battery is replaceable, given screws to take apart the device;

Snip snip, solder solder, done.

But I like doing that kind of stuff :)

i agree to a certain extent. only thing that puts me off is there are devices specifically made to in in inhibit rebuilding. came across this on a laptop battery once. rebuilt it with fresh A123's. though, the case was pretty much mangled by the time i got it apart due to the several interlocking layers that didn't allow me to lift a layer, pull a tab and work down the line. had to shave parts and glue with low temp hot glue and cyanoacrylate to keep it together.

so i'm cautious.

Been there, done that, never happy with the end results.

Now if I had access to a machine shop, that would be another story...

without the experience under my belt and the money to waste, I share the same thoughts.

I got my VaporShark the other day. I was worried about the small internal battery since i vape ALL day long, non stop. On the first day i got it, Without charging it, I received it around 3pm and was vaping on it all day until i went to bed around 10-11pm. Of course it wasn't stuck in my mouth vaping 7-8 hours but at the pace i vape, It lasted me 7-8 which really shocked me.

Also, i am using a .7 Ohm coil on a Kayfun and just testing the different wattages 12-15 watts.. and this little thing is AWESOME!

I have to say that out of all the DNA20s i owned, So far this has been the best built one. Of course i have only had it a few days, So i can't say if it holds up but it feels so rock solid in my hands.

My only issue i have with it, Is that since its so small, My Kayfun Lite hangs over the edge a hair ( i might invest in a Kayfun mini )

I had doubts about this thing for the price but so far it is pretty impressive and very well built.

I want to also get a Hana ( i owned one before but sold it off to quickly ) but if i am not mistaken, Then Hana can only go as low as 1 Ohm, While the VaporShark can go as low a .7 Ohm

Hi all,

Posted a long review earlier. Couple weeks into these little devices now and still loving them (third one just arrived today). Did want to point out one potential negative -- I was wrong about the 510 connection being stainless. These are chrome plated brass (or other mystery metal) and that's started to show in my threads. So that's my only real worry. Don't get me wrong, no signs of the threads stripping out or anything as yet, but this could be a longevity issue, especially if you are a regular topper-switcher.

Topper-switcher sounded kind of kinky, sorry

Enjoy!

You are mistaken about the Hana only being able to go down to 1 ohm if your referring to the V2 at least. AFAIK The lowest any DNA20D device will go is .6 ohms which is what I have got my Hana V2 mini to perform at. IMO though using it below .8 having only 20 watts is not really appealing to me but I'm sure that will change when the rumored DNA30 comes out. Then the subohm vape from the DNA will be much more enjoyable.:2cool:

BTW - Is the button on the Vapor Shark DNA plastic?

i wouldn't get anything from Vapor Shark, but then I'm biased. I have a vapor shark store no longer than 5 minutes away from my house and never buy anything from them anymore. I hate the fact that they take products, re-brand them and them sell them off as their own and at a higher price.

I feel the same way myself. Places that do that IMO are out to get the newbie business and take them for all they can upfront before they have any product knowledge to know they are getting reamed.
