I think Sandy might have temporarily shut them down. Their host is LiteSpeed Tech.

Not sure I get your drift Mike? Lae says that she deleted his database without a backup!?

Wow that's weird? I had read an article, yesterday about many sites in the US that went down because their hosts were in New York & New Jersey where there is no power & their battery backups have depleted. Seeing as their host is in New Jersey, it just made a bit of sense.

I sure hope that it was the owners personal decision and it wasn't influenced by HC.

Completely owners choice, they were mucking about and forgot to carry the one. Much like vaping, computering's first rule is ALWAYS have a backup. Pay the extra money for a host that offers real time backup ffs, download a copy once a week, and keep a spare on FTP/DBox.

Actually, it's a little like vaping..... have backups for your backup's backups....

I wont order from them because a true geek would never make this clumsy of a mistake!

...And no true Scotsman would ever dislike haggis. :glare:

People get overconfident, and make mistakes. To err is human, and all that.

It's still your choice where to spend your money, but I don't really see the justification, myself.

Unless, of course, you were being facetious. In which case, ignore me.

Maybe they were so intouch with their geekiness they thought they saw/were the matrix and felt the could control all :)

It could have been one of those rare times when you are finishing up everything you were doing , with a grand sweeping change, and once you knew you had your i's crossed and your t's dotted with that one final reboot the hard drive crashes and it was that reboot was the last thing you were going to do before backing up.

Happened to me, I had everything backed up but it was a huge huge mess and I lost all the time cleaning it up and putting it back together on that HD crash.. stuff happens

Lae is an excellent vendor. I feel fortunate my order shipped the day before the crash, but she obviously works very hard at her business, offers good prices and great service. She will always get my business. With the sale she had going on over halloween, I guess she was a little overworked and things fell off the rails. I'm sorry to hear it, but I'll be back when she is back.

Don't worry Lae, !@#$ happens!

Pixar accidentally erased Toy Story 2..................................

Wow! I did not know about this! I guess if it can happen to Pixar (the best of us), it really can happen to anyone. Still a bummer though. Hope she's back soon...

As an old unix guy, the first thing we did was put a file "-i" in a sensitive directory to prevent the rm * disaster ;)

And i am a Linux young puppy :p (sorry i could not resist lol)

HC is pretty much a urban legend, kind of like free health care or a caring Steven Harper (hey it is 5:30am right now, this is the best i could think off). In truth HC talks tough but that is it. I mean there is CEV that has a actual brick and mortal store front and on November 15th Vapour Solutions will be going the same. Electro Vapers has a brick and mortal during the non-snowy months. Even those doing the farmers market thing would have seen HC come down on them by now.......

I once worked at an animation studio, instead of deleting an image output folder I wiped an entire series of scene directories (work files, art, everything, around 1-2 minutes worth of animation) off the server, using redhat, I'm fairly certain they didn't -i flag that directory (generally wasn't needed, mere mortals rarely got admin rights)...had to get all the drawings couriered over in bankers boxes and spent a day rescanning them. Colouring dept. was less than pleased with me...
