Men Without Hats, I Like (1983)
While the popularity of "The Safety Dance" threatened to delegate Men Without Hats to one-hit-wonder status, the rest of the Canadian outfit's US debut album, Rhythm of Youth, proved that they had a firm grasp on the synthpop sensibilities of the time. "I Like" was actually the first single released from the album, but its anti-conformist message in a danceable form only managed to push to number 84 on the Billboard charts before radio succumbed to the Safety Dance onslaught.

Peter Schilling, Major Tom (Coming Home) (1983)
German pop musician, Peter Schilling, borrowed a character from David Bowie's eponymous song and recast him as a lost space explorer who missed his wife as he disappeared into the void. Originally recorded in German, its popularity quickly transferred across the Atlantic when he recorded the song in English. Technically, the single is Part I of the song, with Part II comprising an instrumental synthpop soundscape.

Kajagoogoo, Too Shy (1983)
The first single from their debut album, White Feathers, was also Kajagoogoo's biggest success. The band also parted ways with lead singer Limahl just as Too Shy's popularity peaked in the United States. Kajagoogoo released subsequent albums and scored some minor hits, but are most often considered a one-hit-wonder for this song; likewise, Limahl went on to a modestly successful solo career, but, too, is often thought of as a one-hit-wonder due to his success with "Neverending Story."
