This is just an interesting little tidbit or two I came across, because these are the odd little things that I find interesting. I happened to get some Kanthal from a new place the other day, because I was ordering some other stuff from there, and it came in a vapowire box, which mentioned TEMCo. So I went to the Vapowire website, and found at the bottom of their 'about' page:

Vapowire is a division of TEMCo, a manufacturer and distributor of industrial electrical equipment that was founded in 1968 in Fremont, California.

Ekowool, on their web site, on the page for their silica cord product line, has a link labeled "special offer for e-smokers".

I just found it interesting that apparently vaping is becoming such a big thing, that these big companies that sell products normally used in big industrial applications have noticed that vapers are also using some of their products, and that they are capitalizing on that.

(I just wish that the dictionary on my macbook recognized 'vape' and 'vaping' as valid words. I guess I should look into seeing if I can add those to it as custom words).

OH, so that's why everybody was having to wait 4-6 weeks for delivery of their Temco wire! All the guys who were supposed to be spooling it were out inventing hyped up artificial subsidiaries.

good to know.

That's a little bit cynical ;)

I take your point, a heating element is a heating element. But there are going to be parameters in some of the materials we use that could be optimised, so I think these are welcome signs, even if in themselves they mean little. It'd be great having material scientists looking at wicks, for example.

I noticed these guys have 'E-cig' as their first category. There was a little info page at one point saying it's been a huge growth factor for them, but I can't find it now, they might have removed it.

It may be a "hyped up artificial subsidiary" :) but I would hazard a guess that they either have people involved who rebuild coils, or they have at least done some research into it, because they do a decent job with the lingo. They also have a chart of resistance levels per foot of different sized ribbon wire compared to the common round wire AWG's, which is something that I hadn't seen put together in one place before: Vape Knowledge - Vapowire

Looks like Vapowire is available to vendors only. Googled it and found it on a couple of vendor sites. Average price is $8.95 for 30ft compared to $8.50 for 100ft of the exact same stuff with a different sticker on the spool. Ugh... That's one hell of an expensive vapowire sticker, man.

I'll stick with ordering straight from the company.

When you type a word on the MB, just right click it (well, I have my Magic Mouse set up to allow right clicking, so if you don't, hold control and click said word).

Then, just click "Learn Spelling."

I spent about ten minutes typing every vape-related word I could and doing this. So, now, it doesn't try to autocorrect any vape words for me. :toast:

I'm not surprised that there is a significant price difference, and I was not advocating for or suggesting purchasing from dealers instead of directly from TEMCo. I was just surprised that they were aware of people buying their products for rebuilding coils. :)

Thank you! I will try that out today! I am tired of capes and gaping :) (which sounds kind of weird actually - I might be strange, but not that strange).

I bought some 27g kanthal from their ebay store the other day. Their ad says they ship within one business day but, as usual, after a couple of days I had to send them a message asking when it would ship. I got an email like ten minutes later saying it just shipped. Coincidence? I think not...
Either way, straight from temco is still the cheapest by far. 'Twill be here Friday. :D
