...... Politics, Save Lives

At first blush it may sound a little extreme. But when a government agency dedicated to protecting people is issuing policies that can actually harm them, and our elected officials are taking their marching orders from Big Tobacco and Big Pharma, is it really too extreme?

..... no!

Puppet Master #1: Big Tobacco

Big Tobacco has been in bed with members of Congress for years. The “friends with benefits” relationship is a simple one: Tobacco companies donate money to lawmakers, typically at reelection time. The catch? Those lawmakers are expected to sponsor and support laws that are favorable to the tobacco industry once in office.

If members of Congress are loyal to an industry that has given it more than $11 million in 2017 alone, might those lawmakers be inclined to suppress an industry that represents competition and is potentially damaging to the one that butters their bread?

The answer is “yes,” even when that competition offers a product that can potentially save many lives. That is how your government works, folks.

According to the World Health Organization, around 6 million people die from tobacco-related illnesses each year, 600,000 of them from secondhand smoke.

With its tobacco flavors (no actual tobacco is present), nicotine, and hand-to-mouth component, vaping has the potential to take many people off cigarettes for good. Hence, it's counter to Big Tobacco's and consequently our government's interests as well.

Puppet Master #2: Big Pharma

Big Pharma is known for smoking cessation products like pills, patches, and gum. The effectiveness of these varies from individual to individual. With pharmaceutical interests having already donated nearly $28 million to members of Congress this year, that industry certainly has lawmakers' ears.

Keep this in mind when you vote: Who's really behind the decisions politicians make? Sometimes it's a special interest that's actively working against you.

Apart from voting carefully, the best thing to do is help spread the word about what vaping has done for you, your loved ones, and others.

We certainly plan to. It will save lives.
