I assume the chargers are different for small pen batteries vs the larger variable volt batteries. I guess the amps put out by the chargers are higher for the VVbatteries.

Most all product websites state not to interchange chargers for the two...I could understand not using the pen batteries on variable volt batteries but i don't see why you couldn't use it the other way around.
