I find that the Russian vapes best for me at 15 watts, have gone dual sub ohm before at .5 ohms, tasted fine but wicking couldn't keep up, so went back to a dual series vertical at 1.6 ohms and either kick it at 15 watts or on the Provari at 15 watts, vape is great. Currently using hemp fiber for wick. Haven't touched it for 3 weeks now except to fill it up.

You'll definitely have to post some pics of your build, I did a mesh hybrid build months ago, gave great flavor, but since going micro vertical, haven't revisited the SS mesh hybrid, so would love to see your version.

It's late, but here it is. I was going to put it off after making some more juice, but saw Jeremy's post so I'll put it up now. Merry Xmas btw everyone.

The fuzzies on it are cotton that got stuck from playing around with density.

Sorry there's no pics of it firing. Also figured out part of my flavor muting issue, my VG on my DIY lately has been 80%+ because I am low on PG and can buy VG locally. Earlier I was using a bottle that I made of 50/50 so the flavor came through way more. either way this coil is a winner, no dry hits, great VP/TH, better air flow, and the VG heavy flavor came through less muted. Mixed myself up some 50/50 tonight, I'll try it out when the tank is empty.

I went light on the cotton on one side to allow a little more air flow. I hugged it tighter onto the mesh with tweezers after taking the pictures.

There seems to be a cap on VP with the russian, probably restriction from the chimney. Anything less than .8-.9 probably wont give you any more vapor, but it will add more warmth and shorten the draw time. I've tried going from .6-1 but I keep going back to .6. .5 is a little too low and makes me nervous because I don't want to melt my insulators. It's probably less of a problem with the chimney filled with a good amount of wet cotton, but why risk it.

This thing is still going strong with no wicking issues or leaking so far at sub ohm. It's important to have a decently thick wrap of mesh so it doesn't go dry around the coil. I've tried the horizontal hybrid wick with a thin mesh wrap and it didn't work well compared to a thicker amount. I don't see myself doing any other build than the armored dragon now. I have the wicking of cotton with the taste and longetivity of mesh now. The only thing I might want to change is to use degummed hemp fiber once hemp traders has that back.

That's great man. This build has potential to last a long time with out rewicking. Right now I'm wicking every 4-6 days or sooner if I vape the tank dry. Lol.. I'm interested to see the longevity of this wick, would you just wash and dryburn the coil/ mesh every week or so. Looks like I may need to pick up some mesh sometime.... It looks like you've got 3-4 wraps of mesh on there, are you using 500?

I went with a 1.6 ohms with my last build mainly because of the amp limit on the Provari, with a 1 ohm I couldn't get max watts out of the P and could only vape at about 12 watts. I have gone sub ohm on the Russian but the wicking couldn't keep up, though I did see one guy who was able to do it.

Right now my current build was been going strong for 3 weeks now on the same wick, but the Russian doesn't get much use lately. The Agua unseated it from top dog, and now that I have the Flash-e-Vapor V2, the Aqua comes in second place, just barely. lol. The Russian now gets to vape my test juice recipes, so all is not lost. Still a damn fine vape but alas have to go with the best performers for my ADV's.

Yes I'm using 500 mesh from steam monkey. I would say the piece I used was around 2 inches long and slightly larger than my coil in width. I'm only into the build a few days so I'm playing the maintenance by ear. I'll use it until the VP falls off and most likely just dry burn and use new cotton, replacing the cotton takes maybe a minute and a half and it isn't as finicky about density as the normal dragon. I built this build for my friend at the vape shop with his FT clone at 1.5 ohms with 30Ga and it worked really well. I might try this with XC-116 instead of mesh at some point for curiosity sake, but this thing is great.

Kewl deal Dr. I just finished a new build on my Aqua using a 20 gauge blunt tip needle for my wrapping mold. 12 wraps for each coil, 28 awg kanthal, vertically mounted in the Aqua for a .52 ohm build. Having a great vape!!

I still have lots of 28 Kanthal, so haven't been tempted with the twisty wisty timey whimey Doctor Who builds yet. but loving what I am getting with what I have.

Lol...twisty wisty timey whimey Doctor Who builds.

I wonder what your doing because I would like a little more TH. This build does increase th over a horizontal most the time. But not unbarable. More information would help..

Do you vape 100 pg..?
(I vape 100 vg..)

Also can we have wire gauge, #wraps, ohms, wicking, pics?

Maybe your wick is oversaturating.. That increases th some.

On the Russian the higher the build the harsher the throat hit. On a single vertical, mount the coil right on top of the air intake, just use the same post that the air intake is threaded to so you won't cause a short, should be nice and smooth for you that way. I find the inverted V twin dual series vertical mount is the best build on the Russian. A little trickier to mount, but easier to wick, no long leg, and best vape so far. Have had the Inverted V in the Russian for a month with Hemp fiber and she's still vaping strong at 15 watts.
