I've found a site (Mountain Oak) that is selling the Phoenix for $8.99 and I can get the kanthal from them as well. However, all they have is cilica wick, and I would much prefer 100% cotton.

Does anyone know of any e-cig retailer who might sell it?

P.S. I am sort of absent minded at times, lol. If you happen to know a vendor, could you possibly PM their name to me? I don't know if I'll remember to check here again. Or, just like my post so I can get back here easier... Yes, I am lazy, but, I'd really appreciate it! :D

go to your local grocery store and you'll find plain old cheesecloth, usually near the baking supplies. Cut a piece about 1 inch wide by whatever length you need, roll it into a tight rope, and use it as you would silica. Best vape I've ever had.

I've actually got some cheesecloth (or did) from when I was making my own herbal tinctures... and no, not illegal herbs, lol. I am really into holistic healing.

I cannot believe that I can use just plain ole cotton yarn for wicks. Fantastic. If I can find that cheesecloth, I'll give that a go as well.

yep,,plain ol yarm,,but has to 100% natural or non-mercerized..

only problem with yarn is,,is ou dry burn it ? it will burn up

That's not a problem for me. I'll gladly replace it if it needs to be cleaned. If I can be successful at rebuilding, I'll never have to purchase a carto/atty again, and that will work just fine with me.

Right on. I've actually seen this before. I was just looking to see if an e-cig vendor was selling something similar.

However, I've learned many things from starting this thread, which led me to this thread http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/modding-forum/284030-wick-materials-safe-vs-dangerous-38.html (Yes, I've read through 38 pages of it, lolz). And now I'm comforted knowing that I can use cotton yard, gauze, and even bamboo yarn :D

It's going to be a fun and interesting change for vaping for me here soon.

In researching how to make the smok RBA work I've found that non mercerized cotton yarn, which you can find at Walmart, works perfectly, just boil a couple of times, three to be safe, by overflowing your pot between boils to make sure you don't contaminate the newly clean cotton and it works like a dream. Can't dry burn it though, my vmax just snaps it.

Am I correct to assume you can't dry burn with cheesecloth as well?

You are, as I understand it is pure cotton as well. Just a different shape.

How easy is it to replace the cheesecloth wick without replacing the coil?

If it behaves anything like a group of threads from a pharmacy all cotton wound pad, it can be squeezed to a tight stick with water. It should go through the coil pretty easily. Be sure not to make the cotton wick too thick, as it swells a lot more when wet with e-liquid. Too tight and it will no longer wick properly. It does take some time to get the thickness right.

Edit: And oh wash your hands well with soap before handling the cotton, or use rubber gloves! Oils from your skin will stick in the wick forever and ruin the taste.
