A bill (HB 59) that would ban the sale of flavored e-liquid, with the sole exception of menthol, has been introduced in Vermont by Representatives Komline, Clarkson, Krowinski, Poirier, and Till. Even though this bill would practically eliminate all vapor products and vapor retailers in Vermont, flavored cigars, pipe tobacco, and hookah products would continue to be legally available.

This is government at its most dangerous -- leaving cigarettes freely available on the market while banning the vast majority of the products that actually help smokers quit.

Take action:

Please take action now to protect consumer access to most effective smoke-free products in Vermont.

(Please note: CASAA is anticipating additional legislation will be introduced in Vermont. CASAA will update the Call to Action as details emerge.)

Sent my Email. I must say im surprised they didnt try to just tax the hell out of it like every thing else in Vermont. When i quit smoking a pack was almost $9.00, Mostly all tax. Cost of living here is crazy high and has had me considering moving away from my home state. If this bill goes through it might be the final straw.

I do have a question. If this did pass would we still be able to order online from other places?

Technically no. Would you get caught ordering from out of state? Probably not, but the vendor would be in violation by selling to a VT customer so it could prompt some vendors to stop doing so.

or otherwise introduce into the stream of commerce in Vermont

The wording on this line might be open to interpretation as to whether the customer would be in violation or not, I could see that argued either way :2c:

We've updated the Vermont Call to Action with a NEW CAMPAIGN (email and phone calls), this one dealing with HB 233, which imposes a tax at the rate of 92% of wholesale price.

Vermont House Bill 233 would tax “tobacco substitutes” (vapor products containing nicotine) at an outrageous 92% of wholesale price. This is the same rate paid on “other tobacco products” in Vermont. A similar proposal nearly passed the Legislature last year. HB233 is currently before the House Ways & Means Committee. This bill could be moved on as early as this week (week of 3/16)!

Please take action now to oppose this outrageous tax on low-risk vapor products in Vermont!

Oppose HB 233 - Send an Email

Please also make respectful phone calls to members of the House Ways & Means Committee to tell your story and ask for their ‘No’ vote on HB 233. Please keep in mind that these phone numbers are the personal contact lines for these legislators. Please call during normal business hours ONLY.

Oppose HB 233 - Make a Call

(Writing Tip #1) If you have a lot to say, please craft your email in a separate word doc and then copy/paste it into the field provided. If you take too long, they system will time out and you will lose your work.
(Writing Tip #2) Although we've provided a prewritten email with compelling talking points, we would strongly encourage you to edit the email because personalized communications to legislators are far more persuasive than form letters. At a minimum, PLEASE INSERT YOUR PERSONAL STORY (just a few sentences) in the text of your email.

This is an interesting, informative article in that it highlights the reps. proposing each piece of legislation and why they take that position. This could be useful in writing to them about the bills.

It includes a perspective from Adam Tredwell of VT Vapors. I will be in their area this summer and hope they're still in business so I can stop by.

Shumlin urges caution on e-cigarette tax - WCAX.COM Local Vermont News, Weather and Sports-

Governor Shumlin says he does not support a House-passed plan to impose a new tax on electronic cigarettes.

The 46-percent tax on wholesale purchases of the nicotine inhalers passed in a narrow vote Friday. Governor Shumlin sides with opponents in saying there is not enough information about the cigarette alternatives to know whether they are good or bad for public health, so he thinks it's premature to tax them.
