Depends on how much you paid for it. The biggest difference between the two versions is the MVP v2 allows you to set the device using watts or voltage. The v1 only has voltage settings.

If you paid about the same as you'd pay for a version 2 device, yeah, I'd probably send it back.

For $42 you could've bought the MVP 2...

As you can see above, the shape and size of the iTaste(s) are almost identical. There are only minor physical differences between the two versions. The differences are mainly the software/features within.

The display location is exactly the same on both devices. Notice the writing next to the buttons, although they looks the same far away, you can notice that the v1.0 says "V+" & "V-" while the v2.0 says "P" & "U". The led display on my v1.0 is red while the v2.0 I bought is blue. The original v1.0 was able to display the puff count and also the ability to control the voltage ranging from 3.3-5.0.
The newer v2.0 does the same thing as v1.0 but also has the following new abilities:
Variable Wattage: Wattage can be adjusted from 6.0 – 11.0 W in .5 watts increments.
Ohmsmeter : Reads resistance of your atomizer/cartomizer/clearomizer.
Battery Level Indicator
Digital display shows Ohms meter, Voltage /Wattage setting

Here you can see that the v1.0's "beauty" ring .. well, isn't so beautiful because it does not sit flush with the device. I never really understood why they did that. The latest v2.0 model includes a slimmer beauty ring and it sits flush on the device when laid on the side

Look closely at the metal finish on top. The v1.0 is really nice and shiny but it was a huge fingerprint magnet!

Just the fact that the V1 does not have Variable Wattage, Ohms meter or Battery Level Indicator would encourage me to buy the MVP 2.
I own the MVP 2 and am very pleased with it.
Over the past 1+ year of using VW I've come to like it so much I wouldn't ever consider buying a non VW APV.
