Seems like I have to do this aLOT and I'd consider myself a very light vapor. I'm actually wondering if the filler in the cartridge isn't a bit too short because I'm getting the burnt taste intermittantly which leads me to top off again to eliminate it.

Should the filling be below the edge of the cartridge or level? I did see a link to a video on restuffing cartridges somewhere....

The filling tends to get compacted a bit such that it doesn't make good contact with the metal wick. First thing I'd try is pulling it out a bit with a pair of tweezers so that it is even with the top of the plastic part of the cartridge.

Also, after a few days of topping off, I find that the cartridge just doesn't seem to absorb the liquid quite as well. When the filling looks kind of dry and you add a drop or two, and it just kind of pools on the top--time to clean your stuffing.

When that happens, I take the filling out, rinse it in water, then pat it dry with paper towels, squeezing out all the moisture. I then refill the cartridge. (Yup, you should watch the refilling/restuffing cartridge video for details on this.)

I'm too lazy to dig out the link, but I will if you can't find it. :)

Thanks for the response. I did find the video after some digging.

I thought I'd found the ticket with the 501 modification (even though I'm using a 901) but that was short lived. I got a ton of vapor but it lasted a very short while and now I'm getting the gross burnt taste again. I love this thing when it works but it's SO inconsistent. Tastes good, tastes burnt, lots of vapor/not much vapor, very frustrating/very frustrating...:)

If it gets too frustrating, just buy some new empty cartridges. They're pretty cheap.

That's pretty much the answer to most problems in e-smoking.

Just buy some new stuff.

It's like some kind of capitalism trip, man.

Oh I have extras...just can't figure out if I'm having to top off an unreasonable amount or not...if for some reason the filling is drying out too soon, etc.

LOL....too funny....

I have found that also. Topping off way too much. So I just started dripping. Seems to taste better, more consistant hit. 3-4 drips... 5-10 puffs depending on how long I pull (I have a manual switch).

So just forget the carts and just drop directly. You will like it better.. hopefully!

Every time I try to drip, I flood the atty...even with just a few drops, sometimes even ONE!

Then I get NO vapor and have to blow out the atty....

I have no luck with dripping either.

But hopefully when my new expensive TECC-510 Titan arrives I can forget about these problems and all the money I've wasted on pen-style atomizers!

I feel so sorry for you!

If I couldn't drip ,I would throw my DSE 901's away and go back to analogs.

If I'm using an actual 901 I don't even use a cartridge at all.
I only use a cart on my Nicostick mods with the 901 atomizers , and even then I only add one or two drops to the cart each day.

I've never counted the hits, but I find I had to top my carts for my 901 pretty often. Now my carts are old and taste bad no matter what I do. I ordered some new ones since I lost some over the year and will be buying some polyfil to replace the batting later.

Dripping has worked really well. I just don't like the idea of dripping when I'm on the go even with a convenient little dropper. I'm hoping to load the carts and save them in my purse for when I'm out and then drop while I'm at home. But honestly if I can get the carts to work right again I think I'll just stick with that since I don't want to risk killing my atomizer or battery. I've already lost one atomizer to God knows what reason and I just killed a battery this morning by dropping it on the floor.

I have to constantly top off every model I own. I also go through more liquid than most poeple I read. I see people that vape 2-3 ml's per day. I'm at aroud 8 ml's a day (4ml cut 50/50 with glycerin).

I've tried the straw mod, tea bags, coffee filter, fish filters and batting. I still haven't vaped a cart dry. My carts put off a burnt taste after about 10 pulls.

Did you try blowing the atomizer out and/or boiling it? Boiling seemed to work pretty well for me. I often wonder how many people assume attys are dead when they're just flooded. If you don't know to blow them out because they're flooded, I could see how people would assume they've gotten faulty atomizers that are dying a day after they receive them.

The only time I drip is if I'm checking a DIY flavor. I've had the same atomizers for at least a month.

That's a lot of liquid!

The only one I've tried is the straw one and it seems to work well enough. I do find (as someone somewhere suggested) taking a quick HARD draw (don't inhale it) occasionally seems to "freshen" the cart and delay topping off a bit.

I'm going to have to go find the mod thread where someone actually put a little plastic resevoir of juice on their PV...looked funky but it may be something to persue.
