Hello,

I found a thread this morning and the person mentioned that their stomach acts up from 50/50 blends and they go to a 90/10 blend to calm it down. I can't find the thread now!

Is PG or VG easier on the stomach? I have gastritus from bile reflux disease- so I have to be careful with all acidic things. The bile has eroded my stomach lining and I'm on meds for it. Which do you feel is more gentle?

Thanks,
Lori

You may be thinking of this one? http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...07-noob-seeking-juice-advice.html#post1962661 (Google is handy when you search with criteria, like "site:http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com +stomach +VG +PG")

I personally find VG more soothing in general as well (although some people are just the opposite, and can't stand any VG at all - totally depends on the person).

I'm far from an expert, and your doctor would be a much better candidate to advise you, but this may be why it bothers some people's stomachs? (lot of references to acids in metabolization process)....

wikipedia on propylene glycol: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Propylene_glycol
PG:
...propylene glycol is metabolized in the human body into pyruvic acid (a normal part of the glucose-metabolism process, readily converted to energy), acetic acid (handled by ethanol-metabolism), lactic acid (a normal acid generally abundant during digestion) [9] , and propionaldehyde [10] [11].

wikipedia on glycerol (what glycerin redirects to): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glycerol
Metabolism
Glycerol is a precursor for synthesis of triacylglycerols and of phospholipids in the liver and adipose tissue. When the body uses stored fat as a source of energy, glycerol and fatty acids are released into the bloodstream. In some organisms, the glycerol component can be converted into glucose by the liver and, thus, provide energy for cellular metabolism . In animals, wherein glycerol is derived from glucose (e.g., humans and other mammals), glycerol is sometimes not considered a true gluconeogenic substrate, as it cannot be used to generate new glucose.[citation needed]

Again, I'm not advising you one way or the other - your doctor should do that, because it sounds like your condition could be very touchy... But I certainly see a lot more references to acid in discussion of metabolizing PG.... not so much with VG

ALSO.... be aware, that if the intention is to avoid PG at all costs, some flavorings are suspended in PG. So if you're not thorough, you could end up happily vaping on juice that is using VG nic-juice base, with PG-based flavoring. If your doctor advises you to avoid PG entirely, be very specific and ask your supplier about the base of their flavorings. Really hope that helps!
