This is a video review of the DSE-801 "Classic Pen" Style from E-SmokeyTreats

Battery Life - 8
Vapor production - 9
Throat hit - 8
Cut off - 5
Down time - 8
Draw Weight - Mouth inhale : Freeflow to light / Direct inhale : Light to medium
Switch reliability - 6
Consistency - 7
Overall reliability - 7
Customer Service - 10
Shipping - 10
Overall score - 8

Hardware review criteria -

1) In all cases I will use a fully charged battery, removed from the charger within 5 minutes of the start of the review.
2) In all cases I will use a clean, freshly primed atomizer. All atomizers will be past the "factory prime" stage in order to provide accurate expectations.
3) In all cases, I will use a brand new cartridge, unpackaged on cam.

All hardware will be tested over time before it is reviewed. Each review will simply be a visual summary of the information I have gained from using the hardware over at least a 24 hour period.

Review scoring as as follows;

Battery life - Scores the full life of the battery, from first draw to flashing light. - 1 point per hour.
Vapor production - Scores the amount of vapor visible on exhale.
Throat hit - This covers the amount of throat hit ON AVERAGE. Some models give a better hit when warmed up so this will be taken in to consideration
Cut off - Scores how long the e-cig can be drawn on before it cuts off and stops cooking the atomizer.
Down time - How long is the user forced to wait after a cut-off. Longer wait = lower score.
Draw weight - This defines how easy or hard it is to "drag" from the unit. Free-flow to Lung-buster. This is un-scored because it is very subjective but should be mentioned.
Switch reliability - Does it not light when it's supposed to? Does it light up when it shouldnt?
Consistency - Does the E-cig provide reliable, consistent vapor production and throat hit?
Overall reliability - Does the e-cig just work or does it require voodoo magic and constant fixing to make it go?
Customer service (This only applies to the supplier)
Shipping (This only applies to the supplier)
Overall score - This is the final, overall score and is NOT an average. It encompasses my feeling for all aspects of the e-cig and supplier experience.

hehehe...I've taken my pen out a few times when I've hit the clubs. People approach me all the time and say "I thought you were chewing on a pen until you exhaled that cloud...is there a cigar in there or something?"

I'm going to be ordering more atomizers and another battery for the 801...I like it so much that there's no way I can stand to be without it if something happens. Even with me having the Evo and the 510, I am in love with the 801.

2 hours off a 901 battery yes, but 801's last much longer - i still can't make it through a work day off a single 801 battery though - i usually swap them before battery light goes off due to decreased vapor. 901 is a bigger chore as i tend to get down to my 3rd battery by the time i get home from work. I don't vape like a fiend but i frequently puff on it several times a day :)

If I am understanding your rating system correctly you are getting longer battery life from your 401s correct? I was doing a hit count with my pen style batteries and I was getting counts in the ball park between the two and thought maybe I was getting something wrong. Of course I do have to take longer hits with my pen, but its interesting that you seem to get the same results (if I am reading that right that is).

hahaha

Thanks for the compliment :)

That being said...I'm going to be removing the "switch reliability" and "overall reliability" categories from the review...I've decided that since I'm mostly going to be reviewing gear I haven't had for 2 months, I won't be able to make reasonable statements regarding those categories.

And with that, there'll be less filler and time for a tad more fluff :p

Rob , let me ask you something... what does the bridge in those atomizers look like? is it tall and narrow , or short and wider ?

seems i have been having less luck with the tall and narrow ones , which i believe to be the "real" 801 (Sun can you clarify?) and better luck with the short and wider ones , better vapor /throat hit / easier draw

Heya Grimm...

The ones I got with the unit are the taller, narrow ones. I also have one of the shorter, wider ones and it sometimes seems that I get a bit more vapor / throat hit but it also seems that one is a LOT less consistent...like it gives me a really good draw only 60-70% of the time where the other ones are much more consistent.

hmmmmm , the plot thickens....

my "tall and narrow" atomizer has a pretty stiff draw and gives much less vapor/throat hit

my "short and wide" have that same %60 good draw/vapor/throat hit but i think i like them more overall...
