VA Senate Finance Cmte unanimously approves SB 96 to ban sale of "nicotine vapor products" and "alternative nicotine products" to minors, also requires Internet marketers to verify age of purchaser prior to sales and requires delivery service to verify age upon delivery (which VA probably can't enforce against out-of-state Internet vendors, but might try to enforce against in-state e-cig Internet vendors).

This subsection shall not apply to mail order or Internet sales, provided that the person offering the tobacco product, nicotine vapor product, or alternative nicotine product for sale through mail order or the Internet (i) prior to the sale of the tobacco product, nicotine vapor product, or alternative nicotine product verifies that the purchaser is at least 18 years of age through a commercially available database that is regularly used by businesses or governmental entities for the purpose of age and identity verification and (ii) uses a method of mailing, shipping, or delivery that requires the purchaser's signature before the tobacco product, nicotine vapor product, or alternative nicotine product will be released to the purchaser.

I just got back from the doctor’s office. He told me that he and a group of other doctors are going to the capital in Richmond next week to talk to legislators about medical issues including ecigs. He’s totally advocating for ecigs and harm reduction. His comment was “If you’re not at the table; you’re on the menu”.

BTW, he’s really happy with the improvement in my health since I switched to vaping. Now my lungs don’t make a rattling noise when I breathe.

The next step is taxation, here in one of the home states of Big Tobacco, based in Richmond right down the street from State govt, imagine that! There's no way the state's going to give up that eventual money. This isn't a surprise, though, despite write in campaigns - 'for the kids' always seems to win...not that the laws against tobacco that were on the books even then ever stopped me from smoking when I was a VA teen... (Hence, vaping now )

So... Requiring an ID for voting in a Presidential election is discriminatory, but requiring an ID for purchasing eCig supplies is not?

I'm waiting to see what this new law does to out-of-state internet purchases. It will be a real PITA if I have to be at home to sign for all vapemail. I would think that Virginia would have a hard time enforcing these rules on out-of-state vendors.
