Avira reported finding "HTML/Crypted.Gen HTML script virus". I allowed it to clean it up.
I'd been reading ECF. I used google to do the search. I went to the GG website. There was a picture of the PV on the front page, and I clicked it. (I was hoping for a larger picture of the
mod, which I didn't get.) About the same time as the 2nd page loaded (the one that loaded because I clicked on the picture) I got the virus warning.
I haven't been to any other websites in hours. So ECF, Google, or the GG website pretty much had to do it. Of those
three, the one I have never been to before was the one I had just loaded when the warning popped up.
I do believe others when they say "I've gone to the site and my virus checker isn't giving any warnings". However, a website can deliver viruses on a more or less random basis, only sending it out say to 1% of the people who visit. And it can also use information gained from the web browser to decide "I'll send it to this one, but not that one". So it's not as simple as someone else visiting the site and saying "No, it's clean".
Regardless, it's not the kind of place I want to do business with, and I think others should be careful.
