back again with more questions :) I'm coming into my third week vaping with an ego C (1000mah) and vision V3 clearomizers - really happy with the setup, specifically the clearo's. Though still getting to know how and when to clean these bad boys. I have tried the dry burning with success. However the other day i went a step further - took one apart and inadvertently broke the circuit. I managed to recoil the wire around the wick (after giving the cloth and wire a good clean). Once back together it worked a dream. Seems pretty straightforward so got me thinking.......

... user's of the V3's, do you go this route rather than buying new heads?

....do you clean out your coils this way rather than dry burning, or a mix of the two?

... I have also heard comments warning against dry-burning the V3's - is this because it damages the wick or subsequent flavor of the wick?

...and if re-wicking is it always cotton? do people ever buy silicon wick material to use?

and finally one more question...i have taken to keeping spare filled clearo's in sealed bags to stop juices leaking everywhere. Does anyone keep caps/ plugs (diy or otherwise) corked into the mouthpiece to advert this?

all and any feedback welcome!

You don't have to take the coil apart to clean it, you just wash it well, and then dry burn it.

The Stardust IMO isn't the best clearo on the market. The E1-V blows it away (from DiscountVapers). The thing that drives me nuts about the Stardust is the fact that they crack so much and that lets in air into your tank. The next thing you know, the juice will start bubbling when you vape and the back pressure causes juice to go into your battery's juice well. At that point you've just wasted juice and you have to clean the well out and blow the stardust out and either replace the tank or grab some silicone (hot glue works in a pinch too) and, like the little Dutch boy with his finger in the dam, try and hold it together. As an experiment I took some pliers to an old stardust tube and I COULD NOT break it no matter what. The poly that they make that out of is strong stuff! Why it cracks is completely beyond me. I have 8 stardusts. 8 of them cracked. That's why they sell replacement tubes. In my experience, given enough time, they crack 100% of the time.

The best thing you can do with any of these clearomizers is rewick them with cotton or bamboo yarn which improves flavor and wicking and removes the potential threat to your health that is the silica wick. Details on how to clean, maintain and improve all of the clearomizers currently on the market can be found in my blog, The Vaper's Handbook, below. Click on the link in my signature. If you want to skip ahead it's Question 20. It will teach you how to rewick/rebuild clearomizers and also gives you detailed information on why silica could be messing people up, permanently.

I just ordered Clearomizers for my eGo-T batteries, your report is encouraging. I wonder if some overdo the cleaning adjusting a bit?

yup, really quite happy with them although still early days - i tried some CE3 bottom coil clearomizers and prefer the vape on the V3's (will probably give the CE3's another bash soon, but i was getting a bad taste far too often using them. Got the the impression that the juices were vaping away from the wick too quickly ( too low a resistance/ too much voltage??) and was being left with a plastic dry taste. I understand this can be remidied with a bit of modification but havent tried. With the V3's any dry burn i get semms to be quickly resolved by giving the tank a twirl...and the dry burn taste is nowhere near as repulsive as i experienced on the CE3....anyway hope your experience is positive with 'em!

ty again ninja for replying, was reading more of your guide earlier and i understand silicon may not be preferable was just wondering other user's experiences do the whole rebuildable aspect of the V3's. I am uk based (should really state this as site advises) but interesting hearing about the E1-V - will have a lookie. I have had no issues with cracking but sounds like i may encounter soon - i had been going on the impression that only certain juices/ flavorings had a tendancy to do this.

just like to add that they may not be stardust's --- for clarification i have Vision Ego Rainbow V3 Rebuildable £5.50 - Vaping Spares - Cartomisers Electronic Cigarettes | Vaping Devices | Accessories | E-Liquid

geez, it does seem there are a multitude of models out there.

The other thing i am liking is ease of filling, i have taken to filling the juices directly from the vendors 5/10/20ml bottles if plastic rather than filling up the needle tipped bottle that was bundled with the starter pack i purchased (and avoiding the hassle of cleaning those each time i choose to use a different juice)

He's speaking about the earlier Stardusts. The plastic was cracking on all clearo type cartos- Stardusts, Vivi Novas, etc. The latest version with both the Vivi Nova and Stardust are a diff plastic and are more impervious to cracking issues. Myself and 61 converts have been using the newer Stardust for at least 10 weeks and no cracking.

ok thanks for the info, i have looked for signs of cracks but so far so good (knock on wood). An hour ago cleaned out one of mine - took the head with the wick attached out of the chamber, filled a basin with some hot water, slushed everything around good, dried off the wick (long wick) with tissue/ paper towel pressing down to absorb any moisture, finished with a quick dry burn then rinse....and now enjooying some of the mint tea courtesy of pixie juice...

..so out of interest does anyone use a cork or such like to keep juices from spilling out when not in use( i.e. when getting chucked around in my pocket) ?

If I have to go anywhere I put some XL cartos in a Tic Tacs container with the condoms on and/ or take a larger tank/ carto system with me.

FYI - I like my Stardust a lot, it's inexpensive and cute, but beware that some e-liquids can melt the tips. Luckily, members of the forum warned me about it and recommend getting a stainless steel tip from gotvapes. I'm glad I did, because my cinnamon juice melted the tip in about 2 weeks. There's a list somewhere on the forum of different juice that have killed tips. The steel one is great and I got lots of compliments on how cool it looks at my local vape store.

Re: a cap, you got me musing about it this morning and I discovered that the cap from a medium-sized Sharpie pen fits nicely. Since it's tapered, it can fit on the tank with or without a tip on it. The Sharpie cap I used didn't have a clip on it, but those might work too, I can't find one to try. If this idea ends up working, I imagine I could get colored caps to match the tanks ;)

lol i was thinking around the same lines of a pen to utilize..good find with the sharpie.

with regard to the steel tip, i recently had a bit of a disaster with a new 501 atomizer anyway more to the point i also ordered a plastic drip tip, and even though i didn't actually end up using (fried the coil i think) the plastic tip just felt wrong. So far the pre supplied clearo plastic tip has been fine, but definitely don't like the idea that there is a potential of inhaling buring plastic.
