Visitor Messages showing up in searches

Over the past couple days I've found "visitor messages" taking priority in searches. I do a search for "Echo" and get the first nearly full page of a conversation located in Visitor Messages. Is there a way that visitor messages can be (re)removed from the search?

If you're using the ECF search engine : an advanced search provides numerous options.

Advanced search > click the single content type tab

Yes, I found that, but should you really have to choose "advanced search" to search the forum? If you want to include visitor messages I can see you clicking on the advanced search option, but a normal search should be forum only.

Even if I'm within arm's reach of the TV -- I use the remote control.
