I had sort of a shock a few weeks ago. My doctor had tested me for a Vitamin D level. Normal is 36 or a little higher. Mine was 4. He asked me how was I feeling? I told him like garbage, but I always do with the fibromyalgia. He was surprised I could function at all. He put me on 50,000 iu's a week for 8 weeks and told me I would start feeling a lot better. I started taking a multi-vitamin too. Anyway, I had no idea about the Vitamin D. I don't get out in the sun much as I can't stand heat and I'm very fair complected. Just thought I'd pass this along to all of you gorgeous ladies just in case you don't know about this.

I too, am on the same regimein. I was a 16, and even after several months of script vit d, I rest at around 17. Im not sure why my body wont soak up vit d, but my DR said its a problem thats more common than you may think. Ive felt like crap for almost 7 years.....funny its the same amount of time my body wont hold vit d.......

Hows ur liver enzymes? i ask bc mine is a lil high in my blood, but I damaged a part of mine in an accident 7 yrs ago and it leaks extra into my blood. I cant remember if its ast or alt or whatever but its the one thats not bad unless the other one is also elevated.....so I suppose Im ok. :) I asked abt urs tho to see if there was a trend. Maybe having elevated liver enzymes affects ur vit d? Hmm...

Its wierd knowing your body isnt up to par w holding vitamins in ur system but if you can get ur levels up ull notice a HUGE difference. When I take my Vit pill for the week, I get an energy boost and am slightly less achey for a day...but since my body wont HOLD it, it wears quickly. Hopefully after a few months, ur levels will stabilize. Good luck :)

I was under the impression that you need to replenish Vit d and c daily as your body flushes what it doesn't use. I take diabetic multi vitamins as well as a Vit d and c sup. I am supposed to go outside for 10 minutes a day. When I walk it's no problem but I can't stand the heat in the summer. My Dr. said the quailty of light doesn't matter..late in the after noon is fine.

Except for the mega ailments wrong with my body, my blood work's always been okay. Do you have fibromyalgia? I haven't noticed feeling any better yet. But mine could be the fibro. My right knee is giving me fits for the past month.....had an mri....hadn't heard a thing. So I presume it's good. If I don't hear anything within the next couple of days, I'll call Dr's office.

Vitamin D3 is what I've seen and researched to be the best way to get it threw capsule The most absorption you can get is when sun is the strongest but any sunshine will do the problem we have is that most people just have their arms and lower legs exposed and you need more bare skin to show to absorb a decent amount. They don't know enough about absorption rates with it you can get over 20000 iu from being in the sun for a bit, from what I've seen 15 mins almost naked seems to be the right amount in strong sun(the darker your skin the more exposure you need for absorption). I try to take atleast 1000 iu in a pill form a day, if I'm sick or feel like I'm gonna get sick I add more till I feel better. My kids and I both take cod liver oil the orange kind tastes like sherbert, you have to becareful with cod liver oil because of the extremely high amount of vitamin A in it. D3 no one has ever overdosed themselves on, I'm sure you can do it but you'd have be taking such high amounts that well you'd almost have to do it on purpose. Vitamin A if overdoes you can get something called Hypervitaminosis A.

I love Dr. Mercola and he has alot of infomation about vitamins and such on his website.

I'm on Vitamin D because of my kidney problem... My medical doctor puts me on it for a month or two, takes me off of it (without re-testing, then afew months later he needs to put me back on it.. My Nephrologist wants me on it forever since it will always happen..

Even with your Fibromyalsia, the bone pain (not the joint and nerve pain) is from the lack of D, not the Fibromyalsia...

I never feel better, sooooooooooooo I don't know....

Thanks for bumping this thread, AngelsLuv. A couple of years ago, there was a study done showing that the region I live in in WV is in the top 10 in the nation for lack of vitamin D and that deficiency is epidemic here. Doctors all over the area began testing for the deficiency; both my husband and I tested low and were treated. I now take a regular supplement, and he has to be treated periodically. The reason for the epidemic here is due to the number of cloudy days annually; we rank right up there with Seattle for lack of sunlight.

If my doctor is correct, the test is something doctors have to request, as it is not part of a "routine" blood panel. It might be a good idea for folks to ask their physicians if they are being tested if they are concerned.

Hi Joyce,

Yeah, it is not in a routine blood panel and if a person has a low or high reading, it's usually re-tested every 3 months with at least a year of negative test results, and then tested once or twice a year..

Oh!!! Lack of sunshine.. Makes a lot of sense...

Really glad you started seeing results of feeling better soon after taking the D's...

I'll have to see if I kept the article I cut out on Vit D (I've just started taking it in the past month) that said to combine it with Calcium and Magnesium for better absorption of the D. I'm taking it to help reduce belly fat (apparently lack of Vit D being processed by your body properly contributes to this) but it'll be interesting to see if it helps with the fibromyalgia too. An interesting side effect: the magnesium (per my doctor) is helping with my Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

I LUVS the 'net (what did we do without it???). Anyway, I couldn't find the paper article I cut out but I found it on the web:

www.vitamindwiki.com/tiki-download_file.php?fileId=1586

This downloads the PDF version of the article that appear in First Woman magazine. It's a good explanation.

P.S. I learned on Dr. Oz this week NOT to take calcium at the same time as Syntrhoid (the med for hypothyrodism)...take it one hour later.

This makes total sense. The last time my doc and I discussed my vitamin D issues, he asked me about a calcium supplement and frowned when I told him I didn't take one. I guess I'd better be looking into that, as well as some magnesium, since I also have IBS-D.

I agree. He does have the best natural newsletter online IMO. He really tells it like it is, no matter what. Like how dangerous soy is, for instance. It wasn't so bad before it was a GMO (genetically modified organism) food, but now the only soy that crosses my lips is edamame (safe) and soy sauce occasionally.

Cool info, Thankys!!!

I knew about the calcium/synthroid stuff... Seems like alot of what I'm taking can't be all taken at the same time and needs to be seperated.. Pain in the tushy....

Ladies, please look up and become familar with the symptoms of vitamin D overdose too! My sister, a very smart lady, managed to overdose herself and the side effects lasted for months. Just be careful with the vitamin types the body stores.

+ 100 on this !!!

(DawnsFolly...are you coming to Brandon ? The Florida Vapers meet ?)
