I don't claim to be an expert on these things, but since so many users seem to be experiencing problems of one sort or another I thought I'd throw in my $.02 and expound on a few simple measures to keep 'em up and running at full speed.

1. Remove the white silicon cap and cut a small triangular notch on each side where it contacts the wicks. This will allow for much better wicking and few, if any, dry hits. Before replacing, drip a couple of drops on the coil.
2. Don't over-tighten the unit on the battery - you'll mess up the center posts on either the battery, the Vivi, or both.
3. Clean after each full tank. Cleaning procedure is as follows:

A. Disassemble unit and run warm water over everything
B. Shake each part dry - blot wicks with paper towel or rag
C. Attach base to battery (without tank or silicon cap)
D. Dry burn: turn voltage down to 3.5 or so, power on for around 5 seconds till coil starts to steam and/or smoke.
Blow on coil to cool. Repeat till no more smoke is produced.
E. Drip a little juice directly on the coil
F. Reassemble unit, fill to just below the top mark or lower
G. Roll unit around a bit to saturate wicks
H. Vape

NB: Don't hold or place these things upside down - the notches in the silicon cap will allow liquid to leak into the top aluminum cap. Small price to pay for proper wicking, but still...

This procedure has worked well for me, though others may have different methods of course. It's pretty standard, but I thought it bears reiterating. Vape on! (do they still say that?) :)

I've rinsed and reused the heads multiple times on my rebuildable stardusts, and I thnk they're the same heads. I "dry burn" while the wicks are soaked with warm tap water. I do this until the water's gone, no more smoke is rising from the coil, and they glow red. I do this with a few 5 - 10 second burn / cool down. Then I rinse the head and let everything air dry overnight. The heads tend to work good as if not better than new.
