The eGo/Riva is my first choice as well, but I do have to put a word in for the Volt. Their combination of slim size, automatic batteries and good cartomizers make for a pretty nice combination. The throat hit is decent for their form factor, so if you are looking for something the size of a cigarette, they're not a bad choice.

im on 14 mg right now but ordered some 12 and 6 mg bottles ... is either one of those close to the look at feel of an analog ... im a little apprehensive about going with something without that feel to it since i just quit smoking a week ago ....

If you only quit a week ago, you may find 6 or 12mg to be a little too low. 18-24mg is usually more like an analog. A lot depends on how much you smoked. I'm all for lowering nic levels and currently only vape 6 or 12mg myself, but trying to lower it too fast can make the ecig seem like it's not working well enough and send you back to analogs.

ill have to keep that in mind ... i still have a fair bit of 14mg ..... i really only got the 6 for times that i don't feel like putting my PV down haha because i've noticed that happens a lot when im at work

I've vaped a lot of different ecigs, all sorts of mods, even made mods and cartomizers, atomizers, dual-coil low res cartomizers, tank mods, etc, etc, etc. But now I vape the SmokelessImage Volt. If that Smoov 65mm battery lasts 2 hours of heavy vaping, then it probably is very similar to the Volt. The Volt doesn't make that slurpy airy sound that the Smoov does with its teeny-tiny air hole down the center of the battery. The Volt 78mm battery lasts 4 hours of heavy vaping. The cartomizers last about 5 hours before they need topping off with a few drops of e-liquid.

For me, I just like automatic batteries so much better than having to press a button and all the flavor and vapor without having all the hassles of the Ego or other atomizer/cartomizer and etc ecigs. The Ego was my first ecig and I did not like having to fill up cartridges and stick them on top of atomizers and then fiddle with them for several minutes to get it to vape right and then 20 minutes later, have to do it all over again.

One thing you're going to get on these forums is a lot of folks who are now into what I call the hobbiest category. They want the biggest, shiniest, most milliamphours (mAh), highest priced models available. The last time they tried a small ecig like the Smoov or Volt, if it was prior to 2011, it was a terrible experience, batteries lasting 20 minutes and prefilled cartomizers tasting like dirty socks. They will browbeat you that the only way to go is bigger, shinier, more expensive, and a whole lot more fiddling with things that use 10-times more e-liquid in the same amount of time than what you have now, and they have no idea that the vaping experience between yours and theirs isn't all that different. Been there, done that.

So if you are looking to get more pv's because you need more batteries but are satisfied with your vaping experience, then you might want to check out the SmokelessImage Volt. If you want more pv's because you are curious about all the toys out there, yeah, maybe an Ego Tank System or an E-power, something along those lines. Those will be 510 threaded connections between the battery and the atomizer, so you will not be able to use your Smoov or other 808 threaded cartomizers on them, unless you get an adaptor (goodprophets sells adaptors for cheap).

As for what mg to get, it's all personal preference. Nothing's going to beat trial and error. If you are still feeling nicotine cravings, go up in mg for now. If you are not having nicotine cravings, then it's pretty much whatever you want. I've heard and read that increasing nicotine for most e-liquids increases that "throat hit" that simulates cigarette smoke better.

Congrats on your success!!!!!

Couldn't have put it better SteelJan!

Besides some crappy $20 discount tobacco store KR808 knock off ecig I first tried, the Joye eGo was my first 'real' PV. I quickly learned that I did not care for dripping OR for the use of carts (like SteelJan said, too much upkeep), so I went the way of the cartomizer's. Like a lot of people's mentality here on the forums, I too was a fan of the 'bigger is better' motto, so I used the mega cartos then the Echo-e's on my eGo.

The last cartos I used on my 510 was the Echo-e's, which could hold close to 3ml of juice and had the horizontal coils. I really liked them. A filled carto topped with even a standard 650mah battery would last me well over a day of moderate vaping. If I had to be gone for a day, I knew that my PV would last me without having to bring along any other supplies and that was a good thing in my book! Then it happened...

After a few weeks on my eGo, I had a really bad week. I got laid off from my job of eight years, I ran out of my goto juice, my cartos starting getting broken, and my eGo just seemed to all around stop performing in a time that I needed it most. Needless to say, I went back to analogs (I was a PAD smoker for over 20 years). Just when I about gave up on vaping altogether, I took a long hard look as to why I failed at vaping with my eGo. Sure, I had a very stressful week for the first time since I had stopped smoking, but I knew it was more than that, so I sat down and wrote out the pro's and con's of what I liked and didn't like about my eGo. It really helped to put things into perspective.

After realizing what I did and didn't like about my PV, I decided to dig around and find a PV that would give me all that I was missing. Some of the biggest things I was looking for in a new PV was something I could actually hold like a real cigarette, something with a automatic battery (I hated having to fumble with a button protector and push a button every time I wanted a hit), and of course it had to perform like a finely tuned instrument. After a lot of reading, I thought I had found what I was looking for in the Bloog MaxxFusion KR808 and was already to place my order when someone here on the forums told me about the Volt from SI. They told me it was the same thing only a lot cheaper and gave me a few links to YouTube reviews to watch, so I figured what the hell.

One of the first video reviews I watched on the Volt was 'The Chainsaw Test' by SteelJan. Talk about informative! I remember saying to myself "Wow, if she is not getting paid by SI and she is STILL going through such an in-depth review on this product, it must really be worth it!". She was right! I placed my order for the Volt the very next morning. When my Volt arrived TWO days later (SI has the best customer service I have ever dealt with, period!) I remember being simply amazed on my first few toots. This thing was awesome! I had finally found the missing pieces and as of today I am 2 months analog free thanks to my Volt!

I still use my eGo, but sadly the only time I take it out of its box now is when I wanna drip test new juice flavors. The eGo and the Volt are both great PV's in their own rights, but for me the extra upkeep on my Volt over my eGo has been way worth the trade off.

Dropping nic levels after just a week? Probably not recommended :D

Lowering nic levels does you no good at all if you go back to smoking analogs - this is just my opinion, but I think you might want to consider settling on a nicotine level and getting comfortable with it before stepping down.

It seems as if your experience with the eGo was very limited and I'm sorry it didn't work very well for you. But to say that a big batt e-cig is strictly for the people who only vape as a hobby and spend $10,000 a month on the latest and greatest e-cigs is mistaken. I've only used 2 types of e-cigs myself. I had a dse-801 and my ego. I went through the same hassle of attys and carts on my dse-801 that it sounds like you went through with your ego. I didn't like having to deal with carrying around different atomizers and topping off the carts far too frequently and all that hassle. Which is why when I ordered my ego, I didn't even bother with the attys and carts that came in the kit, because I ordered it with boge cartomizers. I think you would be hardpressed to say that a small bat 180 mah ecig is less hassle than what I use. I know there are other options out there that may be similar or easier than what I use, I'm just speaking from my experience. But I also wouldn't write off other e-cigs if I hadn't actually experienced them myself. Maybe it's just me, but it bugs me when I see posts like this that are leading new e-cig users in one direction only, and that direction is whatever the person who "takes charge" of the thread says. When they say "this is the ONLY way to vape, and you MUST NOT follow any other route lest you be deemed a hobbyist that nobody takes seriously", is not very helpful. Go ahead and share your experience, please do. But don't mislead people into thinking that your way is the only way.

If you want more pv's because you are curious about all the toys out there, yeah, maybe an Ego Tank System or an E-power, something along those lines.

I would definately call that misleading as you haven't personally tried these and call them toys. Unless there is something magical about your preferencial e-cig that I haven't heard about that makes it taste and vape just like a real analog that puts all the "toys" to shame?

***Edit*** And yes, as you can see in my avitar, I do have something abnormal that you could call a toy on my e-cig. I hadn't bought anything new since February. Quite awhile. I'm normally broke as I pay child support and can't afford all those gizmos and gadgets that I agree, do become a hobby to find the latest and greatest. But I wanted to try something different, so I got an ego booster. Does it help? Yes, it completely changes how the ego works and makes it worlds better than before. Is it a necessity? No, I'll openly admit that it is not. I just wanted to experience something new. Just like somebody may buy a different brand of cigarette to try something new, some people may try other things. That doesn't mean that when I smoked Camel menthol full flavor, that I would tell people that this is the only brand of cigarette that is worth smoking and that all other cigarettes are worthless. Ok, I'm done with the soapbox, you can have it back.

I think maybe what SteelJan said was taken a little out of context and maybe just a little too literally. I went ahead and re-read her post several times and the only vibe I really got from it is a person who happens to be excited about their preferred product. It happens to us all. A lot of times when it comes to PV's we all tend to state our opinions in a more 'matter-of-fact' approach when we give advice on the things that work for the individual writing the post. It is just human nature is all. The topic on this thread is 'Volt vs. eGo', not 'Volt vs. Everything Else', and since SteelJan happens to be a happy Volt user, of course her advice is going to sway in favor of the Volt.

I would definately call that misleading as you haven't personally tried these and call them toys. Unless there is something magical about your preferencial e-cig that I haven't heard about that makes it taste and vape just like a real analog that puts all the "toys" to shame?

Again, I think this was taken way out of context. Toys, gizmos, thing-a-ma-jigs, thing-a-ma-bobs, etc, etc, who cares what someone stereotypes the damn things, the average reader would simply take the phrase at face value and read on. Not once did I read her saying "Everything else is a toy compared to the Volt!", not once. All she did was use the word 'toy' in referenced slang-terms to PV's. I mean hell, I call all my vaping equipment 'my junk' but that doesn't mean I think it is really garbage.

The only reason I even posted on this thread was because I seen it was dedicated to questions about the Volt and the eGo, which just so happens to be the only two PV's I have experience with. SteelJan on the other hand, has much more experience with PV's. IMHO, SteelJan happens to be one of the most informative ecig reviewers on the web, and even before she became a Volt fan, she was giving exceptional reviews on other products. Her reviews are not only informative, they are also very scientific and honest. All one has to do is do a web search on her reviews or just goto YouTube for her video reviews (they are not all about the Volt).

So, are her opinions law? Nope. Are yours? Nope. Are mine? Again, nope. For personal tastes we set our own laws plain and simple. There is no 'best PV in the world' title, only 'what's best for me in the world'. I think if posters start getting trolled by others on an overly analytical usage of mere wordplay, then these forums will begin to fall erringly quiet...

I agree and can understand where you and she are coming from. But for a new user wanting to know the differences between the 2 devices to make an informed decision, we shouldn't give them our opinions as facts, that's what I was saying.

"One thing you're going to get on these forums is a lot of folks who are now into what I call the hobbiest category....They will browbeat you that the only way to go is bigger, shinier, more expensive, and a whole lot more fiddling with things that use 10-times more e-liquid in the same amount of time than what you have now, and they have no idea that the vaping experience between yours and theirs isn't all that different."

Saying that anybody who recommends anything other is "browbeating" in order to attempt to force the OPs opinion to match mine, is in itself, browbeating. Giving your personal opinions is one thing. But as Jan said, nobody should be browbeaten and think that they only have one option. That's where I get a bee in my bonnet. I read it as she had a bad experience using atomizers and carts with her ego, and she gave up on it and switched back to the volt where she had a much better experience. That was her choice. But to call the ego a toy when so many other people, myself included, use an ego on a day-to-day basis, is kinda silly. And yes, when you read into it that anybody who buys anything other than a volt is merely a hobbiest and not into vaporizing seriously, then yes, it is misleading the OP into seeing it as something that should be ignored unless they just want something to goof around with and blow money on as it's not going to work and be a real PV. Was not referred to as a slang term from what I read.

My main point in all this is to say to the OP that don't take anybody's word for anything. It's your choice, your money. Do your research on this site and don't rely solely on the opinions you get in this thread, as many of them may be jaded. I haven't even tried the volt, so my opinion would be one-sided and that's why I haven't given it.

And Jan and anybody else who read this negatively. Don't take offense to my post. I see you've been here for almost 2 years, and I say congrats to you. You have probably been vaping longer than I, as my original 801 didn't work well for me and I ended up going back to smoking several times (hence why my signature doesn't match my join date). We're all here to help each other, as we're all we have. Same team same fight, if you will. I'm on your side, just trying to help out the new guys when I can :)

haha ... didn't mean to start something between everyone .... just thought i would get a second type of PV .... not really sure which to get ... i only asked about the volt and the ego because i see them mentioned a lot on here .... GIMike i wouldn't mind getting your opinion on how well the one you have works for you .... of course i know not to rush out and buy something ... thats what i did when i got my smoov and its a good device it really is i just want options ... between cartos and attys and different devices i may not end up getting anything else

thanks for the input though i really do appreciate all the opinions ... opinions of actual users i trust more than the manufacturers who lie to you just so you will buy their product.

I didn't mean to make it into anything else either, and for that I apologize for cluttering up your thread. I just see too often when people who claim to want to be helping new users send them to a specific site to look for a specific e-cig, and to me, that's not really what a new user wants. I feel people coming to us for help should get unbiased opinions on several types of e-cigs with info on several vendors, if somebody knows it. Not just somebody's personal preference.

My experience has been great with my ego. You can see in my avitar that my battery is beaten and bruised as I carry it with me all the time. I've been using the same battery since I started using it in February, and rarely have to resort to my 2nd one as a backup. I personally prefer the boge cartomizers for their price, as previously mentioned I can't afford much, and these can be found for around $1.30 a piece (sold in 5 packs). To me, they're the cheapest option with the best vape. If you clog one up after 4 days, toss it and use a new one. No worrying with attys and carts, it's all-in-one. If you like low resistance, boge makes cartos for that, but I would say to get a drip tip to use in your carto as it can get very hot on your lips. I would say get a drip tip anyway as it's much easier to take out the drip tip than to deal with the rubber cap. But that's it when it comes to me and my ego. Charge every night whether or not it's dead, when I need a refill, pull out the drip tip, add liquid, put tip in and vape. There are other options for clearomizers and fluxmizers and tanks (instructions and capacitor not include to make a flux capacitor) out there. That's the great thing about the 510 thread, it's got tons of options when compared to thread types (kr808d-1, rn4081, 901, 801 etc). I've also used the tank, and it's a great vape, but much more expensive than cartos. Just have to be careful when filling as it can be messy in comparison. Now, I mentioned I did get a toy, the ego booster. Again, the 510 has tons of things available. To me, the eGo can be used without it. Only thing is, it only works with genuine Joye eGo batts (there are other threads that discuss the booster if you want detailed info). Lots of people prefer the Riva type eGos as they're cheaper, and there are other knockoffs as well that other people love. I don't know about those, just my Joye types. The booster is awesome, it turns your ego into variable voltage mod in a sense. It can be too hot for the ego-t and give it a burnt taste, and it makes my cartos so strong it makes me want to cough. Works great for me, a bit pricey, and it's new, so it's hard to find. But there's my review of my one and only e-cig I use. My 801 failed to keep me from smoking, my eGo has kept me from going back :)

They're generally not real cheap. Some places have them cheaper than others, and hopefully people can chime in with the lowest prices they've seen. If you really really wanted to get an ego cheap, here's what I would suggest. Find yourself a cheap 1100 mah ego-t battery, you will probably only need 1 battery. If you can't find one of those cheap enough, a 900 mah ego mega batt will be easier to find and probably cheaper. Buy a separate charger. Then if you wanted, get the boge cartos or your choice of cartomizer/atomizer-carts separate as well. Most kits will run you about $70-$80 +/-. Doing it this way, buying a single replacement batt/charger and other parts, you could get off as cheap as probably $30-$40, half the price. Buy all the other parts later. That's what I would recommend. I don't think you'll find very many people who stuck with the atty and cart that comes with the kit, so it's just extra fluff that sits in a drawer or on a shelf somewhere.

I hear ya and understand and I also think that sometimes everyone of us falls guilty to the 'mine is best' syndrome unintentionally. It is just a harmless excitement that is obvious in the words of the poster. I could go into a long drawn out personal comparison between the Volt and the eGo, but in the end it would be pointless. It would be pointless because my needs were/are different than someone else's needs. What worked for me may not work for you, etc. The Volt and the eGo are two different kinds of PV's totally, and they both work like a champ. In the end, the Volt turned out to be my PV of choice for reasons some others may think is trivial, but for me, it was all ground-shattering reasons and made a huge difference (I am smoke-free after all :p).

As far as all of us being hobbyist - HELL YEAH WE ARE! LOL! Its not an insult, its a fact! Haha! Now I know without a doubt that I am not the only one that just has to have that 'new' gadget that just came out for my PV, or that new psychedelic tripped-out neon green battery that whistles 'That's the way, (uh huh-uh huh), I LIKE it' every time I take a hit! Lmao! Man, let's face it...we dumped a disgusting addiction to smoking and found a healthier method that also happens to be kinda fun at the same time. I know some months I spend way more on my vaping supplies than I ever did on smoking for a month and I would say probably about 40% of the things I buy I don't even really need but just...want. ;)

I bought my Joye eGo starter kit from Liberty Flights for about $40. They are a great company with awesome customer service and they always have a 20% discount (by clicking on the aptly named 20% discount banner on the top right of their page hehe). The starter kit I got for $40 included 2 full eGo's (650mah batteries, atomizers, cones, and button protectors), a 5 pack of carts, a cloth carrying case, a USB charger and a wall charger. You can chose from about 6-8 different color eGo's.

It can definately turn into a hobby that can be as cheap or as expensive as you want it to be. Mod kits can be had for around $10 or as high as you want to go. For the majority of us, we've experimented, found what we liked, and have settled into our favorite combination of parts and juice. I've found I really don't experiment much. I don't really play around with juices much either. I pretty much vape like I smoked. I'm in my vaping groove if you will. For me it's my ego 900 mah batt (would have preferred the 1100), boge cartos, and 24 mg peppermint liquid. I haven't smoked in so long that I found I don't like tobacco flavors in my juice. But as I'm sure we'll all agree, we're all different. I doubt anybody who'll read this will say "hey, that's exactly the same as my groove too!" I guess we all groove differently? Move to a different beat? Songs in our head are played by different bands?

In any case, your best bet is probably to take a look at the supplier list on the main page. Just click the "forum" button at the top left to get back to the main page. Scroll almost all the way down until you get to a seemlessly neverending list of funky names. Those are the suppliers :) Most all of them have a link right there that says "link to...." that will take you to the supplier page. Go check em out. You might find something better than anything we've talked about here that fits your fancy.

Better than my deal :/ Just watch out for the 650 mahs. If you vape heavily, you'll probably need to carry both batts with ya. Also, it's kinda silly, but some joye batts have a cool protection feature that if you press the button 5 times, it shuts it off. No more pocket firing. My 900 mahs don't have it, but my 650s I got with my ego-t kit do. Probably just a supplier thing, different people order different parts.

Yeah, unfortunately the bats I got from LF didn't have the clicky turn-off feature (that is nice to have and definitely worth getting with manuals). Since I was a moderate vaper on my eGo, a fully charged 650 would last me into the next morning, but your right in that you may need to carry a spare or maybe even a PCC if your vaping habits go beyond what mine did.
