I'm new to vaping (again). I tried a few years ago but couldn't kick my smoking habit, but I'm trying yet again to quit smoking cigarettes and stick with vaping. Now to my question(s):

I have an R80 TC box Mod, Micro TFV4 tank, et al of the Smok Micro One starter kit. So far, my experience with it has been fantastic with Cloud 9 Vampire Blood (80VG / 20PG). However, I'm very inexperienced with what the correct settings should be to achieve a cool, smooth vape without burning anything or tasting metal.

Its current set at 0.00V, 0.26Ω, 30.0w. Is this safe for the battery? It was like this out of the box. So far, I've had a decent experience with this setting (as I fight the craving for the garbage packed into cigarettes). If anyone knows of a better combo to get a cold vape from, please let me know.

30W for a 0.26 ohm coil can be fine. The R80 is good up to 80W (I assume, otherwise why call it that?) so power is not an issue. What determines the best setting is quite easy to do. It's the point you get a good vape.

Some folks prefer a warmer vape, some a cooler vape. Some like big DL draws, other like mtl puffs. The point is there is no right or wrong so long as you remain within the bounds of what is safe and within spec for your mod and tank. The best way to figure out what's best is first, prime the coil well. After filling the tank let it sit a while so the cotton is well saturated. Start at a low power setting, even if it's not making a vape. Slowly dial it up. That breaks in the coil so you don't burn it. When you reach your sweet spot, stop and you're done. That's the correct setting for that coil for you.

Glad it's working out for you on this go around.

Welcome. When you press the ' fire' button, your mod will apply the volts to get your 30w. The 0.00v reading is common on some mods, mine has it right now. It jumps to 4.24 as I vape. Have a look! :)
Anyway, those settings are low and safe. I doubt you'll get the best from a 0.25 ohm atomizer at 30w but not to worry. Mine is 'built' to 0.5 and the watts is 40, for example.

Thank you, Eskie. I did prime the coil, but I didn't think to let it sit afterward. I will remember to do that when its time to switch it out again. Here's hoping the habit switch sticks.

Ooh! Thanks, djsvapour. That was worrying me a bit. I thought I broke it or something, because I have the worst luck, ha.

@sonicbomb Tried to find the exact battery, but all I found was "4000 mAh large internal battery" on Smok's website.

Not knowing their CDR is one of the problems with internal batteries, however, in general, manufacturers use batteries sufficient to meet the power ratings of the mod.

Well done on quitting the "stinkies" mate.
I'd agree with Eskie - start low and gradually dial it up until you find your "sweet spot" (applies top every new coil - or not if you always vape coils of the same resistance, coz once you know what you like you're set).
You can't really go wrong with Smok products (I've got several and had no issues with any of them) - that R80 has all of the built in safety features you need to it's pretty much idiot proof (not saying you're an idiot by the way lol).
The MOST important thing is that you stick with it, discover what devices etc. suit how you want to vape and enjoy your new stinkie-free life. I smoke 20-30 a day for over 40 years and not had a ... since my first vape just over 18 months ago.

Welcome and glad you joined.
When starting my vape at low wattage, I find that the wattage that works for me is usually a few watts over the lowest watt setting (where i can barely see the vape cloud on the exhale). Lower watt settings lessen the chance of burning the liquid and generates the best flavor.
I like a cool vape also. The longer your drip tip, the cooler your vape.

I don't think any of that is dangerous, by any means, but I wonder if you get any vapor at all from a .26Ω coil at 30 watts. You are (generally) correct vaping in lower wattage ranges will produce a cooler vape, but I think a coil value in the .5Ω or even .7Ω range and watts in the 23-28 watt range will probably suit better for what I think you want.

Ohms and watts are in no way related to each other. A 0.5 ohm 5 wrap 25awg kanthal would be vaped slightly lower then a 1 ohm 8 wrap 26 awg kanthal coil not higher. Use a few watts below companies lowest recommended wattage and work up from there. I find some companies min even to high.

Yeah, never trust those "recommended" ratings. They're always inflated as folks like big numbers for their coils the same as big numbers on their mods. I always start low and slowly work up as you frequently don't even need to reach those minimums to get a good vape.

Well, since the start of this thread, that default configuration is actually working well for me so far. I haven't smoked a cigarette in almost 48 hours, which is CRAZY for me. @The Fugly vaper 40 years? Well, I have no excuse now, do I? That's amazing.
Congratulations, might think of it this way, you are not sucking in the fine ash particles that a ash trey carries and are destine to not smell like stale tobacco smoke. Yep, your health will improve and may live longer and happier.
As a beginner, you have a tricky advanced rig so you might want to go real slow with changes.
In General higher ohm coils/lower wattage (generally MTL) vaping will:
Heat the coil slower, which may produce “less” vapor
Provide A “cooler” tasting vape, can produce more flavor
May use less E-Juice (<$ less money)
Prolong battery life (<$)
Prolong coil life (<$)
Prolong wick life (<$)
May result in less PV maintenance/Issues
Less irritation to non vapers
Aids stealth vaping
May be better in the long run healthwise (<$)

Yeah, we can't say if 30w is to low or to high or how much vapor is good for you. If the coil is built with 2 0.5 5 wrap 25 awg thats plenty of vapor but if its built with 2 .5 ohm 22 awg or 2 26/32 claptons it would be considered low but whatever you like is whats best for you.
