Howdy all,
I have a low performing USB pass through for the 801 (needs a bit more ooomph)

Already done:

  1. Cleaned battery connection (you people should do this more often! Lots of gunk surprised me!)
  2. Cleaned and raised the USB connection ever so slightly using 12:00 3:00 6:00 9:00 upwards pressure with paper clip. This is only done when no vapor is produced. I'm assuming when I have vapor, I should stop there.
  3. Doesn't appear to be a problem with the LED connector at the tip, but what do I know.
This all leads me to believe I may have a low output (volts?, however it's measured) from the laptop USB port. BUT, Desktop and another newer laptop produce no more ooomph, the same actually.

The only other USB port in use is a Wireless /keyboard (not really wireless if it needs a wire now is it!) Any ways, I disconnected that while looking for seeking the ever so needed more ooomph.

Ummm help?

How can I check what my PC/Laptop is putting out? Is there somewhere in XP or VISTA, or my BIOS where I can measure this? I am not familiar enough to use voltage meters, --you know, those alligator clips. Well I am a but familiar, but then I would ramble on about "my accident" with a voltage meter. It's best I not use them again.

I truly appreciate any assistance.

Thanks!

Mike

All USB ports should output 5 volts, that is the standard. For the oomph your looking for try a AC to USB adapter or a powered USB hub. The computer outputs 500ma, for best vaping many have suggested to use at least 1000ma. If your in a rush, go to walmart, if not monoprice.com has them for 2 bucks.

Great advice. Some USB ports may actually deliver down to 100mA depending upon power requirements from other USB devices also attached to the computer. Not nearly enough oomph to run an atomizer properly.

And some don't deliver enough oomph period, such as my 5-yo Dell Inspiron. If I attempt one puff from my 901 PT, I get an instant message (XP) that ""A USB device has malfunctioned and exceeded the power limits of its hub port. You should disconnect the device."

Hmmm... Might be that dell uses crappy power supplies, My work computer (Dell Optiplex) would yell at me every time I plugged any passthrough into it.

Hey thanks! I forgot I even had an AC USB adapter. It only took an hour to find it, but the Pass through is working great now. I've got my ooomph back! Thanks a lot guys!

Mike

I was about to mention the 110v adapter. That way there's no risk of damaging your lap top USB ports. The adapter is more consistent.
