You don't need 30 watts for normal vaping. Some really like the big clouds. Picture 4 coiils at say 35 watts. That is 4 coils an wicks going at a bit over 8 watts which will produce a lot of vapor if the wicks are good and they have a good supply of juice. Most people will not need more than say 8-16 watts. When you get big clouds most of your juice is wasted and you draw attention to yourself in public. So I don't do that in public and really i don't need more than 16 watts even though i could go higher.

I build my own coils with 28 gauge kanthal and cotton. Usually wind up at around 1.6 ohms. I don't really count the wraps, and I have no clue what diameter the mini drill bit I'm wrapping around it, but if I had to guess at wraps I'd say between 11 and 13? What kind of topper are you using? If it's a clearo, they typically don't have the right airflow for higher watts, plus silica takes a bit longer to wick.

I have a kayfun replica that I got so maybe I will try and see if thats any different. I know that my protank on there with 2.5 ohms seems to get dry hits. I try and draw without firing to wet the wick sorry forgetting the term.

It's called priming the coil. You can also try replacing the silica with cotton, for faster wicking and better taste. It's vital to prime the coil before firing this way though, as cotton will burn if it's dry. Also, you can look into getting an aerotank base for the Protank if it's version 2, with the single coil. It will give you the ability to adjust airflow.

I have a mvp 2.0 I love it and just got into building my own box mod. But what I dont understand is what would you need 30 watts for. Anyone give me some help understanding that. I mean maybe a rda but still seems overkill.

30 watts is far from overkill on an RDA. Most people that sub-ohm on a mech are firing way over 30 watts. I have a regulated 30 watt device and feel that the vape actually isn't as good as a mech would be at low ohms but it's still nice to have.

And to answer your question, the reason someone would need 30 watts is if they want to fire their device at that powder setting. Some people vape at low wattage settings, others vape at high wattage settings; it just depends on the user.

If you run duel coils or more, more watts will be needed. But for single coil builds I usually am 1.2-1.5 ohms with about 10 watts. With a duel coil build I am around .6 with 20 watts. I dont foresee ever needing 30 watts because I don't like a lot of heat and I can get good taste with a coil that has a larger surface area.

That's right. More coils more watts/amps. I have an mvp 2 and an atomic rda. I found that my best performance is from either a dual verticle coil @ 1.5 ohm using 32ga or a single diamond coil @ 1.8ohm using 30ga. The diamond coil has much better taste and seems to produce the same vapor quality. However I also found if I have a "harsh" vape quality from a certain liquid I will use the dual verticle to smooth it out. All other coils in my set up IMHO don't compare!

What is your resistance at with 10 watts? I am using 2.5 and I think I burning my wicks anything above 7 watts. I appreciate the quick reply

If you're using a stock head/coil, the wire is probably around 32g, which means it doesn't take as much current to heat up. I found, too, that I was burning juices with the stock heads much higher than 7.5W. May also depend on your juice mixture. If too much VG, may not be wicking well. I learned to rebuild my coils for my kanger heads, and I'm using 30g wire (about 8 wraps) and landing on about 1.7 ohms. I can run upwards of 9W with the 30g, but when I was trying to wrap with 32g, (I was landing around 2.2 ohms), I couldn't get much above 8-8.5W. (I also use 50/50 juice - some are dark and sweet, which also tend to gunk up/burn coils more quickly.)

Tinkie, I tried 28g on my weenie kanger heads, and I couldn't get enough wraps/thin-enough diameter that would fit in my heads without being too low to fire. Saving my 28g for my kayfun clone that should be here sometime this century ;)
