So I have been really wondering about this $200 question... If you had to choose, would you buy a Chalice or buy a VV Grand? Obviously I could buy both, but that would definitely cost me probably $400! I don't have that much money to blow (or maybe I do depending on the answers :D)!

I have a regular Grand and I love it to death, BUT the battery drop off does get a little bothersome even though I am pretty use to having a fully charged battery in rotation.

I use a Hornet at the moment and RECENTLY drilled it out to 1/16 and it is working perfectly! Making the air hole bigger definitely made it a much better rba.

The chalice is not available still, but just in case I wanted to know which direction I should go... I see a lot of just awesome reviews on the Chalice, but it seems like everyone who uses a Chalice has a VVG lol  if it is pretty much a match made in heaven to have BOTH then I might have to consider getting both as a bday gift to myself in the Summer.

Well you really do need both :D (Right answer?)

But I would start with the VVG and work from there. The Chalice will be at least months or maybe never before produced again and its so good they are tough to pick up used.

But Rob has been steadily cranking out VVGs so they are easy to pick up in a flavor you like.

But yes its really nice to have VV when using a rebuildable atty. It just means you don't have to be so careful with the resistance when wrapping. Just throw some wire around a wick and crank the VV until it vapes great.

On the other hand..If you are very carefull in building you coil you will not need a VVG at all... so the Chalice will be a good answer (an ERA also is a good choice btw)

What do chalices and woodvills have in common (besides that many people think they are the modern ferraris in a world of kias)?

Availability. So if your seeking either, you don't currently have any option but to try to acquire one second hand.

I don't (yet) own a vv, but IMO, a standard grand is hard to beat and the advantage of being able to adjust voltage is negated with a grand by coil configuration.

The advantage of voltage drop off is negated with longer battery life with a grand. Gotta change batts anyway.

To me, the two biggest deciding factors were that a grand is smaller, so it's going to be going with me everywhere. I'm not one to use one device here and another there. I want the same vape everywhere.

The second (and biggest) factor to me is that there is something special about a mod you can lay on the ground next to your muddy dirtbike, spray it with simple green as your spraying down the bike and hose em both off together, dry em and they both work like new again. Not that id do that, but nice to know I can.

IMO, a vv wont make a significant difference to your vape quality. The advantages to a vv are more convenience. A chalice does change vape quality. Significantly. Game changer.

Now if only you could just find one....

Well, I rigged up a Chalice for the first time yesterday and I have to say that I would rather have two ERAs than one Chalice. There really isn't much difference at all in the vape quality. I would rather have one ERA and pocket the savings as well. The only downfall of the ERA is the small allen wrench as far as I'm concerned. The Chalice definitely wins in that regard.

There is someone in the classies / wanted section looking for one. I'm guessing that you can get rid of it quick!

I would but it's not mine. I am glad that I got to try one though as I have been on the hunt for a while now. The way it's worshiped around here I thought it was going to be some life changing experience. That was definitely not the case. I prefer the ERA. It was like showing up at a wine party but wanting a beer. lol

In my case it was like showing up at a zima party and getting shots of patron instead! Maybe the big difference is between a hornet? Perhaps larger RBA's like a7 and era don't heat up as much, thus changing vape quality?

Could be. My ERA doesn't heat up at all really. I've never tried a Hornet so I wouldn't know about that one. I would guest the colored Hornets with the aluminum top might heat up faster as well. That's a good question though. The thing about these things is that everyone is has different preferences, especially when it comes to air flow. I think that's the main reason for me. I like the stiffer draw of the ERA. Some like it a bit lighter.

I don't recall anyone saying it provides a better vape, I know I haven't.
It comes down to build quality, looks, feeding properties, and air flow.

The first two have nothing to do with vape quality .... feeding characteristics not really vape quality either but does affect the ease of use. Air flow does affect the vape quality some. I know I prefer a side air hole vs breathing from the connector. It provides better feeding and allows the excess to flow back into the bottle well.

I get much more runtime out of my VV REOs than with an 18650.

Two 18350 might look less by the mAh but consider I can vape those two 18350 down to 3.3v with the same vape as an 18650 started out with.

Try vaping an 18650 at 3.3 and see how satisfying it is. I would prefer to swap my 650's at 3.8 :D but I often go to 3.6 by then I'm jones'n for a 4.18v

But I agree with you on all the other points. I've said 100 times on this forum if you can own just one REO its hands down a Grand for my choice. Luckily I own or have owned more than one of every model. Going into the VV when they came out I just wanted a way to crank it up from time to time. I was not even thinking about the regulated vape or vape time in general because I was always happy with vape time on a Grand.

I was pleasently surprised that I can vape a couple extra ml on my VV wood compared to my Woodvil before I need a swap.

BTW, was your second chalice you picked up the newer one with the "funky" screws or a first run ??

I have one of each, I like them both for different reasons. I don't like that the new screws fall out but I do like that they grab the wire better when installed.
