Wait... What??

I was driving through downtown Seattle today and was first in line at a red light. I pulled out my eGo and was happily vaping away waiting for the light to turn green. All of a sudden I hear someone in the car next to me yell "hey man, what in the hell is that?". I look over and it was a police officer!! I thought for sure that I would get pulled over for further investigation, but as soon as I said "Its an electronic cigarette", he smiled and said "Oh, right-on. Good for you!". I was totally shocked!! The traffic light turned green and he took off while I kinda sat there thinking "what just happened" for a second or two.

Has anyone else had a completely unexpected (good or bad) response to the typical "what is that" conversation?

I can't find the thread on here but a member was confronted by a cop about his vaping due to some people being conerned about it - and the cop pulled out his own PV and showed it to the guy! (This is in the US.) There's also a thread about a gentleman who had all of his vaping gear confiscated by the police, I can't remember what country he is in.

Over the edge...
I've had several encounters with law enforcement types while vaping. All positive. I'm not bashful about when and where I vape. (See my sig.) Of course, vaping is legal here in Virginia. The State Attorney General said so. I just vape and don't worry about it. Not only here in Virginia but in other states, too. I just got back from a week in North Carolina. No problems. Same in South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

Ignorance towards e-cigs and vaping is pretty high... when confronted about what I'm puffing on, I just explain it... in response, I just get blank confused stares, but sometimes it gets thru to the non-......ed. Best thing is to just spread the word to get the knowledge out there so people stop asking if they're(Other things) or Hookahs.

We have a relatively new brick and mortar shop here in my town, it is right across the street from out local police station, many of the officers now vape from what the shop owner has told me. I had an officer come up to me at the grocery store and ask questions about my ecig. He knew it was an ecig because he has the ego batteries too and a clearo, well I had my DCT tank on mine at the time, and our local store had not yet started carrying them. She carries them now lol and I think he was one of the first in line for it.

You may be talking about me there is a thread from madmixtress and the vapor room about me almost getting arrested for "smoking" in a bar in cali. And cop pulls out a ego-c and laughs. Also gave me a 5ml bottle of pina colada after he vaped it in the bar. Never thought the smell of coconut would be so awesome

I always get the "awesome *insert narcotic* device"....

Hate it. I then have to go on a 2 minute conversation--which usually ends up with most people trying to buy my Ultra-Max from me. Cannot wait for my run-in with the 5-0.

Are you on the phone or the finally got a new keyboard lol

hahaha yeah i know :p the apex alphas really look a bit funky, i point then to the thermovape website so they can get the real sticky icky mod lol

It was Singapore. Vaping isn't exactly legal there but, from what I get the law on it is loosely enforced.

Like most of the public, LEOs aren't all that familiar with vaping devices. They are however, pretty familiar with devices used to smoke other things. So, I'd say this isn't that strange a reaction. The officer saw something he/she/it wasn't familiar with. That's not the same as saying that the assumption was that it was illegal. I've vaped in front of LEOs many times and nothing I ever use could ever be mistaken for a cigarette. I've never even been asked about it.
