All cartos are disposable, but to make them last longer and not burn up, you should make sure you get the ones with the soft, removable cap. You can then easily remove the cap and drip a couple drops of e-juice in every now and then to keep it moist.

I'm pretty new at this myself, but I quickly learned that the key to keeping a carto alive and not having it burn up (like the pics you speak of) is to keep it moist. Just be careful not to overfill them, because they don't work very well when you drown the atomizer in there. They will still wear out eventually, no matter what you do, but their lifespan will be greatly increased if you don't let them dry up.

I just filled a low-resistance carto that I ordered from Vapor Station. Oh wow...major throat hit. The juice is new to me, too, so I'm not sure if its that or the carto, but anyone looking for a mega TH should try some Frisco from VS in a LR carto!

I've gone completely to cartomizers now. I've been using the first ones I got well over a month ago and they are still going strong. I've seen some people say they will only last a few days....I'm not sure where they got those, but I bought my soft top empties here: Xpress 510 Cartomizers

I am not sure if they are made differently or what, but mine show no sign of stopping after weeks of use. I don't let mine run dry either. Pop the top off with a paper clip or something, drip along the sides while rotating (10-12 drops in a new empty), replace top, make sure no juice is coming out the bottom. You're good to go for a while. When the vapor production goes down, or you notice an appreciable change in taste, repeat the above, although it doesn't take as many drops. I also only use American made juice (Halo). No Chinese. I have no idea if that has anything to do with mine lasting so long or not, but there it is. http://www.halocigs.com/

Enjoy.

I use some with Chinese juice from BestECig, and some with American juice.
I'm seeing no difference in how long they last with the different blends of juice.

I really don't think it matters as long as it's not a way-too-thick juice that won't wick well.

In my limited experience I believe different juices do make a difference in so much as viscosity and color ( darker colors have more particulate matter suspended in the juice which will clog up the filler quicker making it easier to burn )will effect performance.
My first carto was a "boge", I believe, with the glued in caps, I hated the glued in caps but I believe it may have performed better than the "slb" soft caps I got next. There is a difference in the filler and the element. I am going to try the "boge" soft caps next and see what happens.

All that being said, every one vapes differently, therefore the same equipment will perform differently for each person. A pack of 5 generally only runs 8 to 11 dollars so it's not too expensive to experiment with each kind.

Hope that helps.

I agree with the statement on viscosity, I believe I said it can't be too thick, for wicking purposes.

I was just saying that I don't think Halo is the only brand of juice you can use in a carto.
If you like the taste of a juice, vape it:vapor:
I love some of the Chinese juices (I've never found a better 555)
I love some of the American blended juices (right now vaping cinnamon roll)

Both of these have the same life in a carto, over a month each, in daily rotation. I vape @ 6V with a box mod. My juice MUST be thin. @ 3.7 it probably wouldn't make that much difference.

I'm just sayin' ;)

Bought 45 - 510 empties from Eastmall - sure shipping is high(15) but the sale was .80/each which was/is much lower than most I have seen @ 8,9+ for a 5pck. I go through about 1a week depending on the liquid. i agree, if it is lighter, more pg than vg then it will wick better. i have the hard cap ones and use the condom method for filling every time..push the liquid it, swirl it around, blow it out and your good to go for almost the whole day
