An E-Cig (not Mod... we'll get to these) are manufatured then sold under many different "Brand" names. For example, My first E-Cig was called "Premium". It is sold by different folks under different names. It's "Generic" name is "KR808D-1". Knowing this makes purchasing your first E-Cig less confusing. If you go by the Brand Names and not the Generic Names...it appears as there are 100's of types of E-Cigs.
An E-Cig is broken down it components:
1-The battery - powers the atomizer
2-The atomizer (aka: atty) - think of filament in a light bulb... it heats the e-liquid to create vapor
3-The cartridge (aka: cart) - holds/contains the e-liquid (e-juice)
My KR808D-1 uses a cartomizer... which combines the atty with the cart... some refer to this newer E-cig as a 2 piece E-cig... and old ones as 3 piece E-Cigs. I still think of mine in terms of 3. Because all E-cigs have these 3 needed elements: Power, Heat, e-liquid
The nice thing about E cig components is that it means you are not locked into one brand. For example, If you need a battery... you don't necessarily need to buy it from the same place you bought the starter kit, etc.
IMO, The battery is the weakest link... and soon as you as realize that Mods are standard E-cig atomizers and cartridges attached to a big ole battery... you'll be buying one ASAP!
So if you have a 501, 801, 901, or KR808D (I am using the generic names) think about pitching your matching battery and buying a "Mod". A Mod is a customized enclosure for a larger, longer life battery, and has a connection for your atty/cart or cartomizer just like the battery that came with your kit. If a typical E-cig is a scooter, then a Mod is a custom built Chopper... more power and one off looks and style.
As I mentioned, I started with cartomizers, turns out they have a similar fit as the 901 attys... so I bought a 901 atty and some carts too... There are pros and cons to both... the point is you will probably have an assortment of E-cigs... like pipe smokers have multiple pipes. Can't explain it...but it's fun having a "collection" and a variety.

I have a GLV on the way!

It's like just buying a Mercedes, then deciding to get a BMW!
