Ok, not going to beat around the bush; since entering the vapedom, I have adopted a "try to stop me" stance which has met some fierce criticism from friends (also vapers). I usually do not ask any business/restaurant owners about e-cig policy, nor do I make much effort to discuss this with any individuals- typically I just take it upon myself to get some nic wherever and whenever I want, and if there are others present I may do this stealthily. To be clear, I am more discussing the need to snag a few vapes for the nicotine/oral fixation, as opposed to fifteen minutes of casual use.

E-cig promotion efforts aside, should I be obligated to approach/inform people around me about vaping, or is it fair to say that the onus is on them?

Would love to hear what the "official" e-cig community thinks about this.

I have a similar stance, if people ask I'll explain (as I love vaping and will praise it to anyone who wants to know), but for the most part I have no problem pulling my silver bullet out and having a few toots without asking permission... If u ask first it gives people a chance to say no, and then if you do anyway your the bad guy, easier to apologize or educate after u get ur few toots in than it is to ask permission and then having to deal with urge if they say no

I don't like to "beat around the bush" either :)

I'm over 60 and smoked 2-3 packs a day for over 40 years.
I enjoy smoking...I would still be smoking if it wasn't for E-cigs
which allows me to continue the habit with out using tobacco.

For those that are hard of hearing...I ENJOY SMOKING...Always have
and always will enjoy the habit. I now vape more than I ever smoked.
Why? Because I really enjoy the habit. I'm vaping "huge" clouds right now.

I vape anytime and anywhere I want to (With NO Exceptions).
I don't care what others might think about me vaping.

I'm not defiant...I'm not angry...I'm not hiding...and I'm not in
the "education" business.

I just flat don't care what others might think about me vaping.
Anyone that would have "the stones" to suggest I not vape would
see my back and as far as I'm concerned...They wouldn't even exist.

You don't have to "fight" to vape...Just do it

By the way...I like your avatar. Reminds me of Woodstock :2cool:

I don't ask either. I wait till they say something then after I tell em it's not smoke and explain whats in it, they let me go about my business. In a years time I have never had anyone tell me I have to stop - even in a restaurant. But I live in New Orleans.. we are easy going folk down here. Might be different in California.

I agree with everybody so far
I generally don't ask beforehand . If it causes o problem then I will put it away but is very very seldom.

There are a few exceptions .
I do not vape on an airplane (mainly so as not to aggravate other analogue smokers around)
I do not vape in church (out of respect)
I do not vape at meetings

I enjoy vaping, and I enjoy educating!

Still, sometimes, I don't feel like explaining. At those times (i.e. check-out line at store), I just use invisible/stealth liquid.

Otherwise, I look for sideways glares when I blow clouds. That's an invitation in my mind. "Oh, I can see you don't understand what I'm doing..." (duh, if they did, they wouldn't have their face all scrunched-up lol)

In someone's home, I ask if they mind/understand my vaping.

In bar areas of restaurants, I ask if they have a policy on vaporizers. [They never do, but then again, they don't usually know that I'm talking about an "electronic cigarette."] Regardless, after I start, it's usually another educating opportunity.

I do understand some are not comfortable with, or simply feel no desire for, educating others on vaping. For me, however, it's a "high," and I hope I always find joy in it.

Should anyone ever approach me about my vaping, say in WalM, I'll just thank them for letting me know they have such a policy. It won't change my behavior, and they're free to ask me (and my money) to leave. From that point, of course, I'll go forth and share info with management, and on, and on...
