Firstly, thank you for all the info, I'm new to the whole vaping thing and have been smoke free for 2 weeks thanks to all of your help!

I first started with a Protank 3 with the stock dual coils, I then thought I'd dabble in RBAs so I got myself a KFL clone from ehpro. The PT3 had a real warm vape with the dual coils and I'm struggling to get the same kind of vape with the KFL. I have my KFL at 30awg with 7 wraps at 1.4 ohms and around 9.2 watts on my evic. I've kept the coils around 1-1.5 mm from the deck. The amount of vape is awesome, it's just the warmth I feel lacking.

I also tend to feel that the flavors are a bit muted in comparison with the PT3. For comparison I've been vaping H1N1 as well as other nicoticket juices in both tanks.

Any help would really be appreciated. Again, I love the KFL for the vape output, just wish it had bit more depth to the warmth and flavor.

Wrap a 1ohm coil using 28ga, or try a dual coil set up, again in the 1ohm range, and feed it sufficient power. I have found that sub ohm builds on my KFL+ are too hot for my liking. They still perform and taste good, but I like a cooler experience. The Kayfun platform performs remarkably well with almost anything you put in it, provided it can wick enough juice to the coil for low ohm builds. You might have to tighten up air flow a tad, or take primer pulls between hits.

Unfortunately I still haven't been able to find the right balance for my KFL+. I'm currently at 1.1 ohms single coil and at 11watts with my evic. After some experimentation I rebuilt my protank with a single coil at 1.5 ohms and at 11watts just to compare. It's no where near the original dual coil setup.

My conclusion is that 11 watts just isn't enough for a single coil setup around 1.1-2 ohms. I'm wondering if others are having better luck at around 14-15 watts with other devices that allow those wattages.

its funny because most who go to a kayfun from a pro tank feel the opposite and have to reduce the nic levels. anyways I have 4 kayfuns and been vaping them for almost 2 years and every set up is at least 14.5 watts. I have 1 kayfun on a provari, its about 1.3 ohms and use 26g most of the time, I have another kayfun on a dna-20 mod and vape that between 17 to 20 watts, and the other 2 are on mechanical mods. all set ups I would consider fairly warm with great flavor and TH. if your getting flavor that is not on par with a protank there must be something wrong in the set up or wick because when set up right there is no comparison. how does this pic compare to yours?

Thanks for your help! I also had suspected something with my wicking initially. I have tried 15-20 different coil/wick builds and my current one looks very similar to your's with the exception that the coil is more in line with the juice channels. I have also noticed that if I put too much wick I tend to get dry/burnt hits.

You've mentioned vaping at over 14 watts for your kayfuns. Maybe that's my problem; this evic may not be providing me with enough power at 11 watts. One thing to mention is that I keep the airflow wide open, ie. the screw is out.

I have a mech mod coming in this week and I'll try experimenting with sub-ohm single coils to bump up the wattage. This should give me a better idea if the wattage is really the issue.

when I do longish type coils I angle them because if their straight (like you said) they hang a little to far and don't connect with the screw heads just right. either way it really doesn't matter but what does, as you mentioned is to make sure not to much wick is inside the actual coil. I like thicker type wicks but make sure that the area within the coil isn't too much. also keeping the airflow wide open is great for those who like open draws but does affect the vape in other ways. its like sucking on a thin straw vs a straw that's 1-inch wide. it takes less of an effort to draw liquid up a thinner straw then a thicker one so if the airflow is to far open it may not be pulling juice in as much as when the airflow is more closed. I have heard of people using vv devices and really low wattges and being happy with them but if your getting a mech just wait till then to see. in a mech maybe do a coil at around 1-ohm, this will put you in the 15 watt range depending on the efficiency of the mod. at 1 ohm you can use 30g but 28 imo is better.

Came across this thread and was curious, do the wattage charts that I see a lot apply to the kayfun? I'm running single coil 1.5 ohms. The chart says I should be around 7.5 watts and I go around 8.5. But I too don't find the flavor all that much greater. I changed my wick and it looks like photo above. It is cotton too. In comparison my wife's iclear 30s is almost similar in flavor and greater in vapor

Wattage charts mean little if anything, most of those are outdated and related to off the shelf 510 attys and cartos and even then it could vary.

Start low and bump it up a little at a time untill you're satisfied is the only chart anyone needs, the atty will let you know if you're pushing it to far then just back it down a little if you get to high.

I'm generally in the 14 watt range on my single coil 1.2ish ohm build but that can vary widely setup to setup.

EVIC!!!

Please pay attention to the OP's Gear when advising.

That said, I have and very much use (2) Evics...........but not with my Kayfuns.
Sorry, but no matter what ohm coils I build, I do not get strong results.
eVic works great with typical 32-36 gauge coils and between 1.4-2.8ohms. eVic is a casual vaping device and used as such does a nice job.

eVic has a tough time heating lower gauge(thicker wire) coils.

You will get decent response with 30gs @ 1.4-1.8 ohms and higher Wattage
You would get better warmth with a Mechanical or kicked Mechanical.

You might consider trying 32ga - may or may not help.

Does gauge effect resistance like ohms or is it part of the equation of the ohms

Gauge definitely affects resistance.
The lower the gauge (larger wire) the lower the resistance.

However low gauge wire can take longer to heat up depending on your build and device you are using

When I had created this thread I had 1 KFL and 1 eVic. Since then I've now moved on to 3 KFLs, 1 VaporShark DNA30 and 1 Hana Modz Clone. My experiences have led me to 1.4-1.6 ohm 28 gauge kanthal coils around 12-14 watts depending on the liquid. I've since junked the eVic since 11 watts (that's pulsed wattage mind you which is not the same as 11 watts continuous wattage) is just not enough to get a good vape.
